UV Health and safety Regulations.

Within the next month i plan on gettin a 4 foot caged UV tube light for my setup and after reading the post on laser H&S Reg's i started to wonder if there are any Health and Safety issues i should be aware of before purchasing a UV light as UV light can be dangerous can't it?

I get the impression that you need to be standing right by the source for a very long time every day for it to have any effect.

see I was told this many years ago ..... and i have to confess have never actually seen the effect mentioned ?? :confused: :confused: :confused:

I would doubt that a 40w tube would cause a great deal of damage to someone really unles you gaffa taped it to their face for the entire gig?? people gaurd agains spending hours in the sun in the summer and again im no scientist but would have thought the sun slightly stronger than 40w ????

Don't worry about regulations, they cover proper UV, such as coming from the sun or welding.
The stuff we deal with is BLACKLIGHT, which is a safe version of UV.
BLACKLIGHT is completely safe to use.:)
It is possible to maybe suffer from a headache after a while, which would be due to eyestrain, like you can get from watching TV in a darkend room for too long.:(
If the tubes/lamps we use gave of full UV, you'd be sunburned and blind before you knew what was happening!:eek:

Back in my youth we used to go to a Goth club that used a lot of UV none of us ever had any ill affects. In fact occasionally some of us used to use UV active security marker as eyeliner, it freaks people out when all they can see where your eyes should be is 2 flourescent yellow circles. :sj:
