Advice needed please re speaker output and amp ???

as many of you know had to cut the size of my rig down due to my health (still have the big rig and comes out at appropiate bookings) Mainly I cut down the amount of speakers ans amps that i use.

The small rig (that happily done 99% of bookings last year) I am more than happy with, using 2 peavey xt 500s (RMS 500 watts Programable 1000 watts) and a little lightweight KAM amp (450 watts RMS @ 4 watts). but in a few cases when with bands who are not sympathetic find teh rig quiet after they have finnished fo a small space of time.

So I am thinking of replaceing the amp - again it needs to be lightweight but be safe to use with the Peavey speakers

can someone please explain teh programable thing to me in very basic english ???????

and and advise on good lightweight amps that are reasonably priced.

Hiya, I would ignore program ratings--go for RMS.

The XTs arent 500 watts RMS a side are they?

Ideally use a Peavey Amp to match but I guess that weighs a ton?

Be careful to match the amp with the impedance of the speakers--presume its 4 or 8 ohms?

Im sure theres plenty of suggestions from people, if you need to get more power ( Loudness ) maybe you need louder speakers as well--im not sure increasing the amp power may be a good idea unless the speakers can handle it--trying to get as loud as a band is difficult--theres usually 3 or 4 of them:eek:

For lightweight speakers that are louder than most for the size I spose Mackie OR active Mackies are the answer--now entering the expense zone :D

dont really want to purchase more speakers if i can help it as the xt500s are part of teh larger rig so duel purpose :) :)

with the kam amp i have a peaking issue ???? with teh clip light coming on at around 60% of available use - I am presuming that the amp may not be powerful enough.

I do have clipping isues on teh big rig ( 2 x pv1500s & 2 x pv 2600s ( running 4 xt500s & 4 Pro subs) but as this is pretty much close to flat out not too much of an issue

I use the Peavey 1000 watt Mixer Amp with 2 Pro 15s PLUS 2 15inch subs.

Out of interest tried to find more out about the Xts and found you an amp/amps on e bay!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In my opinion, whatever amp you feed the Peaveys with will make no appreciable difference to the perceived sound output. You could go up to the Kam 1500 which is what I use, 750w at 4 ohms, but it's full weight, so that's bad news. Space wise, my suggestion, which means more gear, would be your PV1500's with a set of subs and tops. Same footprint, more noise. One PV2600 with two pairs of tops is roughly same , but one less amp. Sorry I can't give an answer you wish to hear.:(

Could just lower the low frequencies a bit. That would give more power for mid and top. Not to ideal but a good crossover or parametric eq would also help as it could cut out the frequencies your speakers cant handle anyway and save the power from the amp for the ones it can. This can raise percieved volume of your music by a lot.
I was running my rig for a room of about 400 the other day and was thinking I sounded a bit quiet. I was already at maximum on my amp output. Turns out I had plugged my tops into the full range output by accident and they were trying to reproduce the low end thus taking up more power. I switched over to bass cut outputs at break and suddenly all my amps were running at about a third power instead of max and It sounded louder than it did.
And it still sounded good. A good crossover is only 1u in size so will not add much weight overall. Much less than increasing your amp output by upgrading. Probably cheaper too.

Presumably less muffled giving more top end to slice through the punters and bounce off walls etc.:eek:

The same effect as turning up the eq on treble and middle whilst increasing the volume.

But you need a sub to do that.
