Seriously, I hope you all managed to get it done way before the last minute rush. That is one thing about a quiet January, gives you time to sort out the accounts.

Pretty much the same here...mine went off at the beginning of May, within a week of receiving it.

I don't understand how anyone can leave it until the last day possible before going online & trying to file their return.

You could eat it while you were logging into the HM revenue & customs website to file your return online with only minutes to go before missing the deadline & incurring a £100 fine. Lovely!

6% of this for 9 months is going to be a little more than 40p isnt it, especially for those in the top bracket.

it was merely a suggestion- i left mine until the end of december for exactly that reason.

More importantly, how many people earn 6% nett interest on their bank account (especially after paying tax on it it the higher rate if they're in the top bracket)?

I don't see the point in leaving my tax return until the last possible minute, as something could go wrong with my computer or the website itself, resulting in me missing the deadline & incurring a £100 penalty.

For me it's not worth taking the chance just for the sake of making a few extra pounds in interest.

Yeah.. but that means they'd probably have another job.. so would still be paying a fair amount of tax on the earnings from DJ-ing.

That would depend entirely on how much they were charging, how often they were working & how high their expenses were.
