marraiage problems

has anyone ever had any problems with their marraige because of the line of work we're in. I'm having big problems, no third parties involved just the stress and strain has caused this. anyone had anything similar ???:bang: :bang: :beer1:

oh yes! my last wife liked the cash but hated me doing the job! so I swapped her for a newer model?
the present wife supports me in whatever I do, including have a house full of sound equipment, tools, marquee stuff, a constant stream of people requiring speaker systems built, and me going out at whatever time of the day of night to help other Dj's/pubs/clubs with their gear!

she is indeed a true asset to anyone working in sound! :)

Opposite for me - my wife encourages me to get out there and make the moola - but gets a tad annoyed when I start spending - so I don't tell her what I spend, much in the same way she doesn't tell me she's been out shopping again.

Firstly, sorry to hear that you are having problems.
Secondly, I must be one of the lucky ones. I met my missus when I was DJing and she encourages me all of the time as it's a business. Likewise, I encourage her with her business.
Lastly, I am posting on here at 8:37pm on a saturday night because I actually have the night off so I am chilling.

To the topic at hand: There's the odd bit of friction over hours and my ability to get up in the morning and deal with the kids, oh, and the amount of time I spend on the computer and "playing with my music", but my wife is mostly supportive. She has been key in getting my business offering and associated matériel right. She also rather likes having access to all of the music :D

I spend time with my lady during the week going out for dinner etc, if i have a busy weekend. also during the day friday sat. we went dog walking today. just got back from a gig now (3.30am). She does not like me being out, but understands that i have to make money etc.

i want to have a more agency type business in future so i can choose when to take weekends off and get other people to do the gigs, whilst still making money. Might be worth a thought as three gigs on the same night could net you up to £200 whilst watching tv at home! Good luck anyway.

PS guys seems I am in a relationship with a new partner LOL yet again, so no more Mr miserable from me for a while LOL.

This industry does have a major clout on relationships I have found jealousy being the worst thing, the hours of work next??? some have even got fed up of the music being more important than them LOL. Its a bit like the Big one at Blackpool you go through the highs and lows with women and this career?????

To get 3 gigs = £200 at the going rate (around 15%) that's £450 per gig.

Do you get this kind of money for discos in Hampshire.

That's nothing.

I have a friend who runs an agency.

He used to charge £450 for a "deluxe" rig. The DJ got a maximum of £250, so his agency fee was at least £200.....not bad for one booking!

I once thought about being an agent when I was solo singer, looking into it, I couldn't do with the hassle. My agent had around 40-50 artistes on his books, most of which were out most weekends, fair to say he was loaded, but the hassle when the artistes don't show up, break down etc...

So it's not easy money by any means, sometimes harder than actually doing the gig!

I don't normaly have a problem with this until a few weeks ago. I had a free saturday night and the girlfriend wanted to go out "on the town" so arranged everything with friends but had a phone call the night before about a last min disco which i decided to do. most of my friends understood thats part of my job but the girlfriend didn't. Had abit of a barmy but made it up to her now everythings fine. Not sure if i would take another last min booking if we planned to go out.

My partner was instrumental in getting me back into the dj game, and she has supported me 200%+. She comes to every gig, we joke and say she's my sound tech, light tech etc. No help to you now. But I 've been married twice before and they failed, the first was when i was a bobby, suprise suprise!!. All I'm saying is, keep your chin up and look forward, things happen for a reason.

A bit of an exageration for the general mobile dj :) You could easily get a few more gigs depending on the market?

Hampshire is a very nice place to DJ as there are all sorts. I charge £275 per gig which i feel is more than worth the money.

I also run a club night on a thursday which makes between £350 - £850 a week. I can often run this without being there, but i would rather be! If i did not have a girlfriend i would do more events like this but it is more of a commitment than doing one off mobile gigs or random club gigs.

That combined with a few agented discos, could net you a good profit without having to do as much work.

So pleased to hear you are on the up again Badger and Sean if Badger can climb out of the pit then I am sure you will too. This business can have a strain on family life. It really depends on how you handle it. My girlfriend is my roadie; so we get to spend time together at gigs. It works for us.

me too - 7 years in shes actually more interested in the kit than i am.

Perhaps thats the key, get them involved even if its only admin - I dont know - I'm rambling Horses for courses i suppose.

I think its only fair us women get a say on this 1! Ok so my hubby does the discos but i do all the business and website stuff, the advertising etc. He had been doing the disco's a long time before we met but its never been an issue, if i want to go out i get a babysitter, he works weekends so if we wanna go out together we do it during the week, and having a few nights to myself is great! He has the kids during the day while i do the invoices etc and i have them the nights he works and it works out great, i sure all of you will find the right lady one day (hope i dont get blocked from the forum for bein a non DJin woman now!) lol
