hi guys my disco was ok to start but became pretty bad... well this was just a disco where all my freinds came but still. heres the story...
ok so everyone arrived and all was going well... half way through everyone starts crowing around us, wanting a go with the mic and the dance floor was empty.... gosh this was a complete disaster.... still atleast my sisters freinds thought it was amazing! well all i know is that i will probarbly not do that again but what i will do is youth clubs ect i just wont do a disco for my freinds... still... comments???

ok what you need to do next time is jump on the mic lower the music and request that they move away from your equipment. I have had problems doing bookings for friends but dont let this get you down just look forward to the next one you do as each time you grow a little wiser for the next time.

When you have a party, specifically with your friends, that can happen. I remember someone I know decided to do it, the microphone was hijacked (being wireless I think he saw it about 3 times, and got it back at the end. Everyone was going onto the stage, fiddling with his mixer, stoping cd's, etc.

From what I've seen and learnt, either tell people to move and stay away from your equipment or place implements to prevent them from coming near the equipment, ie some amazing chairs placed so people who try and climb over them, well might hurt themselves (not my reponsibility as they shouldn't be near it). Bit harsh, though solves the problem.

Just explain that if something happens your equipment there'll be no music, so no party.
They'll realise it's there loss if it happens and wise up.
As for the mic, there's only one answer - NO, YOU CAN'T USE THE MIC.

thats what happend! they started fiddeling with the laptop and mixer and i almost punched someone in the face! luckely i screamed at the top of my voice full volume " GET OFF OF MY BLOODY EQUIPMENT!" hehe that stopped them and as for this:

Well its illegal.. if you get caught and prosecuted you'll have to go before a judge.... although, its very unlikely that would happen at your age.

If you're charging people for your services you really should be doing things properly by buying music legitamtley like the rest of us have to.

If you use ripped music but don't own the original cds, that. young man, is illegal.

At the moment to rip your own cds you would need an SG6 licence from MCPS which would cost you £500 + vat. This will probably change soon, but until then, you cannot even rip your cds legally without a licence,

the way i understand what im reading is .....

his friends dad has ripped them ... for whatever reason then passed them to his son , who has now either also ripped them or simply doesnt want them and is giving them to groove on so he will have the cd's , if his friends dad however is running a disco as well ..... he will not .

thats how i read it from a 3rd party perspective.

What you're doing is illegal, as you are not the owner of the original music, cd's downloads or whatever. It is classed as piracy, and isn't good.

If i was you i would get rid of all those ripped tracks and start your own collection from scratch. there are some very good collections out there which are a perfect way to start up a new collection. stay legal.

That was a one off payment, but it was never intended for DJs and will be replaced very soon anyway.

I don’t know what your budget is but have a look at the Mastermix E=MC2 collection.
This will give you a good start for your collection, it has a good range of 50’s to current.

On the licence front I have spoken to MCPS and they said they can do me a licence for about £120, this covers playing CD’s and MP3s.
But I will have to wait for the information to be sent before I know if this is what I need.

Well I spoke to them regarding playing digital music.
They said provided it has been legitimately downloaded or ripped from a original CD, the licence would cover me for playing music whether it is outside or in a club/pub

Yes PRS issue a mobile dj licence for dj's to perform at public events in unlicensed premises (such as young farmers gigs in barns). PRS collect money for the performance of copyrighted songs and distribute it to the songwriters. They dont care what form the software is they just want the money for the performance BUT is doesnt license you to copy, shift formats etc etc. PRS will happily tell you you need this licence but for private parties you dont, in 99.9% of hotels, pubs, village halls etc they have their own licence - so unless you do a lot of barn dances etc it is uneccessary.
