For my large rig i am thinking of using my back up amp and back up speakers to add more power and volume to my normal rig but i'm a little unsure how to do this. the thing is on the back of my amp i only have 1 amp output so is it possiable to get a XLR splitter or something to let me plug it in 2amps or will i need to run it through a cross over? i'm thinking my adding this equipment i can almost double my volume. do you guys think this is a good idea?

What about using one amp for each channel?

As for almost doubling the volume, I think you'll need to multiply your current power by nearly 10 times in order to achieve that.

I don't want to run 1 amp per channel as my current amp is more powerful that my backup and i think it would be better to just continuesly run from all 4 speakers and by doing what you have said would affect sound quality and would make the mixer useless wich would mean i would have no EQ and no mic inputs.

I do exactly that, but my mixer has 3 sets of outputs - 2 from the master slider and one from 'booth' with an independent gain.

I simply hook up each set of subs/speakers to its own mixer output.

I've just checked the manual and it seems i maybe wrong:o. (I've only had the mixer for about a week)
It seems like my mixer has 3 outputs:
1xBalanced XLR
1x Unbalanced Phono socket (which i'm currently using)
1x Balanced Booth output.

So would it be ok to connect one amp (the most powerfull) to the balanced XLR and the second (less powerfull) amp to the unbalanced phono socket? is this safe and OK to do? will it damage the mixer in anyway by having 2 active outputs as i've never tried it.
Also this maybe a stupid question but what is the booth output used for?

Should be no problem using all three.

Booth is usually used for monitor speakers, but it is at the end of the day, just another output.

If I'm using a single powered sub rather than a pair I'll connect 'Booth' direct to the sub; my full-ranges are then fed from the regular mixer output via an EQ to the amp. This gives me fingertip control of the bass without having to fiddle under the deck with the pots on the sub itself. And avoids furtling around with crossovers.

But that's just me!

Booth is just another output, albeit usually with its own gain control seperate from the master.

thats great news means i don't have to spend loads of cash on a new crossover.:)

So what are the advantages and disadvantages of doing this?
the only thing i can think of is that all frequencies go to all 4 speakers as if with a crossover i could ensure that low sounds go to my bigger and basser speakers and higher sounds to my "top" speakers.

I've just read your post Vectis Vibe so would it be best to connect my big basser speakers to the booth output so i can control how bassey it gets?

You'll still need a crossover if you are using subs though as all of the outputs will be sending out full range signals (unless the mixer has a dedicated sub output)

It's not a sub strickly speaking it's a full range speaker but it's 15" woffer provides really good, clear sounding bass so would be good if i can give it a little more bass than my other speakers which can't handle bass as well as the SF15.

If it were me, I'd use one amp from the main output, either phono, or XLR, and second one from booth, thus giving independent volume control from the mixer, instead of amps.
