Mackie SRM450V2

Has anyone read about or heard about these new speakers from mackie
Mackie SRM450V2 they do carry a hefty price tag of £1598 and are not yet available twice the pice of the old srm.
any thoughts

I can't work out why they cost twice as much as the normal 450 though.

They are supposed to run cooler than the mark 1s. That's a hell of a price tag, but there again, the retail of the 450s originally was almost that too.

I think Darren's explanation is spot on.

However, on my last foray into a certain midlands audio supplier, it was leaked to me that they will indeed soon be making their own ultra high power amps, which might easily carry a lower than expected price tag. ;) ;)

...so they're obviously legends!

Cooler is good although now I use my SWA1501, they are fine, sure they get warm but nowhere near as hot as they used to get.

I paid £1250 for my pair of SRM450's originally and £800 for the sub :eek:

If you'd met them you might be inclined to think that was correct! They are absolutely like no other manufacturer you've ever met, believe me.:eek: :D

So they've gone from 23Kg to 18Kg which is a sigificant amount - I wonder where they got rid of the weight to?

I suppose as technology moves on, they can produce the same (if not more) bottom end with smaller lightweight components. Only guessing thouigh, I'm no techy, maybe they just put an 8" speaker in it and hope nobody notices...

It appears that they contain class D / digital amplifiers, which are much lighter so might explain why they are lighter than my C300z passives!

Also, I understand that digital amplifiers give off very little heat, so this should solve the heat issue which seemed to be a bit of a problem with the original SRM450.

I thought I'd bump this thread, as I've been reading a bit about these lately, and am thinking about getting a pair later in the year, although I admit they're not cheap at around £1,200 a pair.

Has anyone had any experience of these speakers since this thread was originally started?

I watched 20 seconds of that.....the 'accent' got on my wick......

So for people who cant stand the accent all the video says that they have re-designed the whole cab starting with a new switching power supply and a brand new class d amp (not Class-D the speaker company) and they now use neodymium magnets which are smaller and lighter but have more power than a ceramic magnet.

They tried to keep the natural sound from the drivers but there sister company EAW had spent a lot of time with the cab to make the crossover much smoother and better to listen to.

Thats about it. It's not word for word but it was somthing like that.

My only concern was the technical bod going on about reducing the chances of cutting out caused by the onboard sensor which reacts to overheating.

Thats not something I want on my equipment.

hi, i have found these comments so helpfull, im looking at getting pair of these and have now decided to go for the lighter v2, even though sooner of had black, there very pricey though so im having to try find em elsewhere, i have submited 2 e mails to different companies in the us, with dollar being 2 to 1, i have offered the shipping costs but they work out at about £750 the pair if can import, i have imported before and it does save nice few quid, dont think unfortunately i can afford the uk prices as need to find a mixer for them two, maybe go for mackie dfx 12 mixer, im goign in a little blind as always used passive speakers and powered mixers but needing bit more umpth now, i shall let you know if can find a real good price
