Prolight LEDJ 56 black par cans recalled

I have two LEDJ 56 black par cans. They are 9 months old now.

I have had my equipment all PA Tested and these lights failed, and miserably.

The tester sent an email to Prolight about this and they have responded that there is a recall on these - there was a batch they imported last year that have this problem. Apparently they posted a notice to this effect on their web site.

As many people, like me will be coming up to their first PAT since buying them, they may experience the same problem.

The more important point is that any from this batch are therefore dangerous to use and should be returned to Prolight for replacement, via your retailer, I guess.

As the recall notice is no longer on the Prolight site, I think it is essential to let anyone who may have bought these know so that they can check if theirs are affected.

Question - why did it take you 9 months to PAT test a new piece of gear... surely you've gigged it during this time?

Yes and I am not ashamed to say that I assumed (wrongly), as have many others that new equipment is tested by the manufacturer and doesn't warrant PA Testing before use as new. I have learned a valuable lesson as, do I hope, have others as a result of my post.

Out of curiosity, what was specifically faulty on the lights? The power cables?

Probrably forgot to scratch a bit of paint off where they connected the earth wire to the casing :D

IN fact after loads of scratching you could make a connection one end, but the other end is riveted into the case and so in order to scratch the paint off, you have to break the rivet out and then re-affix the earth strap.

However this should not be the solution for a brand new piece of equipment.

Hi, Please let me introduce myself, My name is WILL & i work at PROLIGHT!!, can i just put the record straight on this matter, LED56 OR 64 ARE NOT BEING RECALLED, There was a batch of around 50 units that would not read a PAT test due to a screw problem, the lights still operated & performed fine,This was rectified by us & treated as urgent, as with any of our products we pride ourselves putting your safety right at the top. We have had around 40 of these back to us, so there are still 10 out there!!, If you discover that YOU own the missing one of the 10 please contact your dealer, they will contact us & we will amend the problem-FREE OF CHARGE & CARRAGE, and this will be done pretty fast too !.

As for your TESTER, We did not mention a recall, due to the fact that there are so many working units that will, without problem pass a PAT test, There is a little batch still to be accounted for !!

If anyone should have a problem with any PROLIGHT or ACME Product, please feel free to e mail, thanks & good luck with this great forum.

Update: Have had Prolight on the phone. Clive from Entertainment House (who I bought it from) contacted them about the lights and so they are picking them up on Thursday and will repair or replace them.

They tell me there are only about a dozen left out of that batch. So check yours asap.
