I have 2 15" scoop sub bins. They are rated at 500w(8 ohms)

Could i purchase an amp with a bridge mode of a 1000 watts(4 ohm)?

Or an amp with 500w per channel at 8ohms?

I would need an amp with a crossover too

Any takers?

Behringer EP1500 + Behringer CX2310 (2 way x-over), About £260.00 the pair.
The amp will run no problems at 4ohm bridge. Run it at about 2/3 power will give about 1kw which leaves lot's of headroom.

I have hammered a berry ep1500 for 3years in 4ohm bridge mode - no problems at all.

Suprised to hear that. Heard from a few people that those Behringers are poor for running bass as it is, but in bridge mode at 4 ohms, they overheat very quickly.

Never had it falter, they do get very hot if clipped but with good managment they are fine.

I run 2 "looney bins" (PD1850's) off mine - never been lacking in bass although that could be the high spl on the bin?

Looking at a Crown XTi to replace it in the Spring so will see then I suppose. Also looking at a pair of USB bins with PD186's so will definately need better amps for those :)

If it were me, I'd go for an amp of 500 - 750 watts per channel and operate one bin off each side.

The benefits of this are that the amp will be running light with the 8 ohm load and this will enhance reliability enormously.

The only downside is you will be paying a fair bit of money for an amp like that, and it could be argued you aren't getting the best out of it. Depends on the available funds really and how important reliability and long life is to you.

Regarding crossovers:
Yes, you should use a crossover to stop the midrange and higher frequencies from getting to the subs as they can sound pretty poor and 'boxy' otherwise. Ideally use an active crossover, but you may find an amp of the rating I suggest will have an optional 'lo-pass' filter anyhow.

I tend to agree with that post myself. This is over budget, but I reckon you'd need to look at Thomann for anything cheaper probably.

i bought 2 dap audio palladium amps for £265 each brand new. 1025w per ch into 4 ohms 750w per ch into 8 ohms. dap x over £65 i have a set of bins and mid tops. so into 8 ohms i get 3k. bins have fane collosusxb 600w and midtops have fane 450b with a j105 horn the only thing ive blown is the horn and at £4 a diaphram i can live with that
