Advice wanted please.

If this is not in the right forum, please move it. Sometimes, I think it takes longer to decide where to post, than to post!

I have a booking at a regular venue for a 21st party. The guest of honour has learning difficulties, and so will most of his guests. I was asked to basically do a " Children's Disco" musically, and hope to be able to cope with that, but in addition, have been asked for a few suitable games. Does anyone have any suggestions, while I sort through the games folder I downloaded fronm here? Thanks in advance. :D

excalibur is it through a care home or private? contact the client and ask what the birthday person enjoys and devise games round it . thats what ive always done in this situation , i spent 6 years as a special needs teaching assistant and regularly do a local care home hence the question (i went down and met all the clients before hand and asked them all what they liked etc)

in fairness ive never been asked to do games at one but have done all the party dances etc.

maybe competitions like best dressed , do a catwalk thing or best dancer maybe good or get some inflatables and best air guitarist ??

i still regularly get bookings from a 40th i did some 3 years ago for a chap with downs syndrome for the very simple reason i didnt treat him or his party any differently to if was doing anyone elses.

We do 2 shows a year for a local handicapped society as well as private parties for members and have done some for local council groups also.

One thing I always find is that music is a great leveller. Most of the people there know their music and just what they like to hear and dance to. I never have problems with requests from them as they are very precise when asking. Funnily, reggae beats seem to go particulary well, especially with the autistic.

I would recommend you make sure you have paper and a pen in case any have a communication problem, or put out some request slips so that carers can help write the requests.

You will have a great time ............... and they usually say thank you afterwards too.

Thanks, Robbie. I don't do functions like this every year, but I have to say that so far, all the ones I/we have done have exceeded expectations. One in particular which a young chap working for me did, with a sheltered housing group, Fledgling Trust. He had a packed dance floor from record one, lots of approval, and a great night.
