View Full Version : Quick Question - VGA Cable to Scart

I want to have video's, Karaoke, images on my laptop displayed on a standard TV via scart. i have a spare VGA Port on my laptop.

So basicaly can the lead below take whats on my laptop and display it on a standard TV Via Scart?

I would have thought that you'd need a PC to TV convertor. Before I got tft screens, I used to use one of these (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=35258&doy=18m2&C=SO&U=strat15) with my TVs.

You're never going to get the best of conversions going from VGA to TV (although I suppose it is acceptable for karaoke screens). When I used to do karaoke, I used a rackmount PC, and so had the option of a secondary video card for the karaoke output.

I suppose it reiterates my belief that laptops are not ideal for live use (although I'm sure many will disagree!)

But most laptops have dual screen output anyway! :confused:

Yeah I know, but I have video cards kicking about which have s-video and component out, which go straight into a TV.

And a lot of laptops have s video too.

I don't really see the difference - you need an extra video card and a laptop needs a converter. :)

Well, it's six or half a dozen in that particular example - it just depends whether you want your six inside your PC case, or your half a dozen trailing about outside your laptop :D

So you use the same cable to convert laptop output (vga) to TV screen (scart)? if so would love to hear from you as this seems the simplest, cheaest and most straight forward way of connecting the two tougether.

sadly the only video output my laptop has is VGA:(

It's just that Lewnics actually uses the cable in question. i have had a look at your suggestion but if i can get a £3 cable to do the same job then it's better than getting the £30 thingy that you posted. As i'm currently low on funds:(. the petty cash jar is looking abit empty:(.And over got over a week till payday:eek:

I'm not totaly sure who he was reffering to in his post:confused:. I thought he addressed the post to me he was talking about the post i submitted. you could be right tho. he could be talking about either product.

Anyone shed any light???

Well Solitaire looks like your right again. just done abit more fishing around and it seems to be able to connect laptop to TV you need one of those converter things you gave me the link to so it seems it can't be done using a single cable:(.
