Aargh! Website's vanished!

Without any prior warning received the following 2 emails this morning...

The validity period of the 'vectisvibe.com' domain owned by client XXXX(Contact name XXXX) has expired.
The domain and all of its services were deactivated on Wed Feb 20 2008.

The validity period of the 'vectisvibe.co.uk' domain owned by client XXXX(Contact name XXXX) has expired.
The domain and all of its services were deactivated on Wed Feb 20 2008

The validity period of the client account XXXX (Contact Name XXXX) has expired.
The client account and all related domains were deactivated on Wed Feb 20 2008.

When I set up the account I paid upfront for 2 years hosting and domain registration and whois shows the expiry date as October 2008 as I expected.

Obviously emailed the ISP as their support line isn't open yet.

Any other thoughts in the meantime? :bang:

you should have a control panel which will show your website is still there, the domain name mapping device looks as though its been switched off, so in essence you should still be able to have it put back on after 24 hours, although severe downtime, which could result in loss of business, make sure you claim

Sounds like your site is still being stored saftely on the domain's servers so you don't have to worry there just seems like the address (.co.uk or .com) has been blocked by your provider. just give them a ring later and sort it out.

Well the site's back up but nothing back from the ISP yet... I'll hassle them by phone in the next couple of hours if I don't get an explanation.

Seems a bit odd, but then no system is perfect. I know nominet have had problems with domains (.co.uk) renewed during December, and notices are incorrectly being sent out to registrants even though they have actually been renewed. This doesn;t explain your .coms though, or the site going down as there is usually a grace period for domains, anyway.

On the hosting account side, quite why all services would be pulled without warning is a mystery :confused:

Nominet usually only send you letters - not emails.
Usually it will be the web host who will send you emails which is usually an automatic system - so mayeb there was just a mix up along the lines somewhere.

That's strange, as I've got a bundle of emails from nominet ([email protected]) saying domains have not been renewed (for domains renewed in December).

Nominet sends these emails upon expiry, they begin with "Your domain name has not been renewed....", which is why most people don't get them (the registrant sends reminder way before this, normally 90 days). Unless of course you let your domain expire.

As I said, in the case of .co.uk domains renewed in December (regardless of registrar used) there was a glitch in Nominet's system causing these to be sent in error.
