The Klaxons & Rihanna colaboration wasn't that special either! She was also out of tune in places, which makes me wonder if the monitor mix is a bit dodgy and the singers can't hear themselves!

Think Chris Moyles needs to stick to the radio too.

In my opinion, when Rihanna was performing Umbrella, they went WAY over the top with the lasers.
It looked like a kid with a new toy!

1: cannot make them sound as good as they do in a studio

Firstly i thought Paul Mcartney was awesome and the sound was spot on in fact better better than any of the other acts through the night.
Secondly the lighting effects were spot on and those lasers i want them and yes i would be the big kid with a new toy :D
But on the down side i thought sharon osbourne didn't half let it down at the end with her outbursts of language at vic reeves in fact i wonder how much trouble shes got the brits into with that cause it couldn't have been staged. :bang:

The most unbelievable award of the night was "best female"
It went to a Lily Allen copycat, rather than the person whose first single broke a world record for downloads, who also had the biggest selling single of last year, as well as the UK's fastest selling debut album in history.

With all due respect, I think that's rubbish.
Regardless of the TV show she was on or her involvement with Simon Cowell, she wouldn't have had the massive success she has if she didn't have a massive amount of talent.
Kate Nash winning best female over Leona Lewis was a complete joke.

But sha wouldn't have got the exposure to gain the success without it.

Probably not.

And thanks to shows like X Factor they now have more chance than ever before to get noticed & gain exposure.
At least Kate Nash writes her own songs.
Indeed she does, although none of them have even been good enough to get to number one.....let alone be the top selling single of the year!
In fact, out of three releases, only one has even made the top 20!

It's that much easier with the weight of somebody like Simon Cowell behind you. I can guarantee that had she had to go about it the same way as Nash, she wouldn't have even grazed the top 40
rob1963

All of them won after being voted for week afer week by the general public, so maybe you should complain to the general public & tell them they don't know what they're on about!
It's that much easier with the weight of somebody like Simon Cowell behind you. I can guarantee that had she had to go about it the same way as Nash, she wouldn't have even grazed the top 40
Of course you can't guarantee something like that.
Corabar Steve
22-02-2008, 09:54 AM
Well let's face it, what sort of person actually votes on that sort of program?
I can guarantee it. The song itself is weak & dreary, the only reason it got anywhere was over exposure. There are far more tallented & capable singers in Leona's genre that never get amywhere near the top 10. Jamelia hasn't even got a record deal at the moment & she's far more talented!

I'm not keen, but it's a massively popular track.
It was the first dance at my last wedding a couple of weeks ago, and is also the first dance at my next wedding next weekend!
I don't think I've had the same first dance at consecutive weddings before.
However, Alicia is not as good as Leona IMO.

Leona Lewis is a good singer, that's about it, they are ten a penny when they do these nation-wide searches on shows like X Factor and Pop Idol.
I agree that Alicia Keys is a more talented singer, as is Mary J Blige, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey... and these artists have been there, done that, and will do it again.

I honestly don't believe that was a serious comment.
Are you seriously saying that singers as good as Leona Lewis are ten a penny?
Have you watched X Factor or Pop Idol?
In order for your first single to break all download records, your second single to be the best selling single of the year and your first album to be the best selling UK debut album in history, I'd suggest you need a bit more than to have Simon Cowell behind you & just be a "good singer"!

Have you watched X Factor or Pop Idol? Not much, no.
In order for your first single to break all download records,How long have the download charts been around? That doesn't particularly impress me.
your second single to be the best selling single of the yearHave you seen some of the recent number 1s?
and your first album to be the best selling UK debut album in historyI often wonder how fair these figures are. The population of the UK has increased by 8% since 1971, more rapidly in recent years. So, there should be more sales across everything, including music. Back in '71, you could only buy music on vinyl - now there are at least 3 major formats to buy music on. You can also get whatever music you want without leaving the house these days, either by downloading, or getting it delivered for free in most cases.
So, it's a comfortable prediction to make, to say that the all records will be broken again and again in the near future.
I'd suggest you need a bit more than to have Simon Cowell behind you & just be a "good singer"!
I'd say the first part is all you need really! So long as you can sing a decent tune and look the part, Cowell will do the rest. Take a look at his CV, he knows what he's doing. He also doesn't do 'long term' artists, as he knows the money is in 'the next best singer' on the scene.

your first album to be the best selling UK debut album in history
The population of the UK has increased by 8% since 1971, more rapidly in recent years. So, there should be more sales across everything, including music.
That doesn't account for the fact that so many people should buy one particular album...only why there might generally be more music sales across the board. However, you are over-simplifying things, as you can't make a direct connection between the population increase & an expected increase in sales without looking at other factors...like peoples disposable income...which has no relation to any population increase.
So, it's a comfortable prediction to make, to say that the all records will be broken again and again in the near future.
I'm sorry, but you just can't know that.
The next "biggest selling debut album in history" could just as easily be released this year, or next year, or in 10 years, or maybe not for 20 years or even longer.

Furthermore, do these records of fastest selling debut include downloads? Assuming they do, this will account for a lot of the rapidity because people can literally download the song/album the second it occurs to them rather than waiting until they go to the shops by which time they may have forgotten, or something else has taken priority.
Downloads are, I suspect, the reason why The Arctic Monkeys and Leona Lewis and many more to come are able to break these records which were originally made without downloads.

A band that writes & plays it's own songs, as opposed to a singing mannequin, hmmmmmmmmmmm.......
I see no suggestion as such & if there was any, I would say it was more a case of the actual playing part of the equation. I wrote some of my old bands songs but I can't play a note on any of the instruments we used or read or write music. It was more a case of I'll hum it & you play it. I would say this made my bandmates (who actually managed to translate my mumblings into music) more talented than I.
