Amp died tonight

Lost a channel on my amp tonight :mad:

And typically was one of those mad-rush-to-set-up type events. Fired up the audio, only one channel. AAARGH!

Swapped for the spare in the van and at a suitable juncture managed to do a bit of diagnosis to prove it was the amp channel, not a lead or crossover.

6-month old Behringer EP1500 going back on Monday :rolleyes:

I've had a few amp problems in my time.

Once I switched it on, and there was nothing. I then noticed I hadn't plugged it into my mains block!

On a couple of other occasions I only had one channel working just like you, although in both cases I'd forgotton to connect one of the speakons to the back of the amp!

Sorry to hear about your problems Vectis,
I have had some similar problems in my time where i have had the electrics short out in a venue and fuse my amp leaving me out of business until i raced home to get the other amp. This was in the days of not carrying backup equipment due to the space in the car.

At least the amp is going back now and you will have a new one soon.

Yes I had a fuse go once but luckily had a spare lead so was very quickto sort out, one of my amps is a bit dodgy with jack in but works fine with XLR in so it's a spare spare one .

Same here had a fuse go just as I started. Very worrying. It turned out to be a dodgy iec lead. So binned it and took out the spare. Changed the fast blow fuse and it was all fine.
Had a worrying 5 minutes there couldnt decide to change amps over or diagnose. Decided on diagnose as I had 15 minutes till official start time.

Indeed. I once had a brand new mixer power supply expire after twenty minutes.:eek: Fortunately, it's predecessor was sat two yards away, cos I hadn't officially retired it!:D

Oh dear... not good at all - I think that Behringer amp comes as highly recommended by a lot of DJs too? Still, you probably just got really unlucky!?

It's not as if it's had a hard life driving a pair of 4R Peavey Pro15's with everything below 120Hz ripped out by a crossover prior to the amp...

Unfortunately equipment breakdowns happen from time to time.Im sure that we have all had one.At least you are covered by warranty on this one.

Sorry you had problems with the Behringer. I have always championed the EP1500/2500 amps. I have 2 x ep2500 + 2 x ep1500's and I have never had an issue in 4 years so I think you have been really unlucky!

Alot of the Behringer stuff is crap but the Europower Amps and DCX24/96 L.M.S are normaly pretty good.

I had a Crown amp give out on me after 4months so there is never a 100% guarantee that a new product wont fail whatever you buy.

Part of life's rich tapestry. These things are sent to try us and thank God you had a back up.
On a related note I bought an item from Homebase just before Christmas and it has developed a fault. I took it back last week and they cannot replace it as they no longer stock that item. I therefore expected to get a refund but they insisted that as it was over 28 days they would only allow me to exchange it for something else. I had the receipt as proof of purchase. Has the sale of goods act changed since I was a law student? I intend to write to them and complain.

Sod that, take them to small claims. I've done this several times now over the last few years with companies that refuse to honour warranties and won every time. You've a right to the item in question being fit for purpose and to have worked for a reasonable amount of time. Reasonable obviously varies depending what it is of course.

It is indeed a connector type, the one which is at the end of your corded mic, for example.

thanks for your reply mate, as you've seen i'm not a complete dummy on the electronics field. i've recently reformed my disco after app 20 yrs lapse & so many products, tech terms have entered the electronics scene & i've been left behind. when i retired , all that was available (if my memory serves me well ) was phono & jack plugs. anyway thanks again, hopefully i'll get better educated soon ( i'll have to if i intend to survive in the new age disco world ), kindest regards THE DUKE.
