View Full Version : How many pages on a website?

After a bit of discussion on another thread, I am wondering how many pages you think the average mobile disco website should have & why?

Also, what are the advantages & disadvantages of having just a few pages, and also of having a lot more?

My own view is that 10 pages should generally be more than enough.

If you have more than that, I think it over-complicates things, as it takes people longer to find the pages (and therefore the information) they want.

My own site only has 6 pages, and I've received loads of compliments about it being clear & concise, and easy to navigate.

Ok guys.....over to you!

:)

Is this just for mobile discos or other entertainment?

I have way more than you and have also been complimented on the information and how much it has helped people with their functions.

I was just thinking of mobile discos, as obviously the more services you provide, the more pages your site will need.

To be honest, I must say your site is one of the best ones I've seen with that many pages...the reason being that the pages have been very well thought out...so there is no obvious overlap, which helps to keep things concise. I can't say the same for many others!

I'm even thinking of nicking one of the things you have for my own site!

I've got 11 pages on mine

Basically broken down to show each part of what we do, can't see myself needing anymore than that unless I do some add ons like a dedicated kids parties page or bouncy castles which I toyed with for a while.

It isn't something which is copyright, just an idea...so I don't have to ask!

It's nothing particularly exciting, Darren...only scrolling text at the top of the home page.

Can I?

Pretty please!

Oh, I see. :o

You don't need to ask as that's not under copyright....:p :D

Actually, I have that there for a reason - it is easily updateable and the robots and spiders do pick it up for the search engines.

That's what I thought!

It's just that a friend of mine is having a new website done, and saw the professional yesterday, who said that scrolling text was a good idea.

There is a suitable space in the black area below my page buttons, and I've been thinking of using it for a while...probably just for latest news & special offer type stuff, though.

I can't remember how many are on ours (& can't be bothered to look either), but they are divided into very clear cut sections, with the exception of the online enquiry bits which need to be merged into one standard form IMO.

Just got back from a customer planning meeting for an upcoming wedding.

Part of the conversation went like this:

"I'm really glad we booked you, we've seen lots of island DJs and most of them are rubbish.... they've become too complacent.... we were dreading this part of the wedding and we almost booked a band... we came across your website and that gave us the confidence we needed"

Nuff said. Case rested.

That's because your website creates the right image & sells your services well, which is what a website should do.

To answer Rob's question, again...

I've had several comments on my website. Given that I have only just signed on to my first directory (more to follow soon) to have had someone find my website, email me and say, and I quote "I've read through your website, and I'm impressed with your style!" is pretty good I think.

Rob your approach is the simple 'this is me' approach. My approach is the comprehensive, this is me, and this is how you can benefit from my experience approach.

Further, I'm slowly adding more pages to cover areas of specialisation and other things. So long as every page has a strong theme and keywords to back that up then it's worthwhile - increased presence in search engines better targeting of the landing pages, etc., etc.

You want your whole website to be simple so people can find what they need, I'm working on ensuring that people land on the right page to answer their immediate questions and the rest of the site is in addition to that. I think Martin (Vectis) works on roughly the same basis.

I'm working on getting the jazz/swing (and soon the chill-out) speciality better represented on Google as there are very few around it would seem.

Out of interest, how many actual pages does your website have, Al?

I always try to keep my website clean and to the point. I have just re done mine. I think its more easier and tells more about us.

I think its just personal preference but i do think if there is to much to read then i think this might put a client off. But then again having a basic website may say other things about you.

hi yourdj,

Thanks for your kind comments.

The reason why my site is simple, attractive & effective is because I wanted it to be just like ME!

I don't think it matters how many pages there are (well I wouldn't would I?) as long as the content of each is concise & relevant to it's header

It doesn't matter how many pages on your website because if you properly arrange your pages on website like you should placed you categories and subcategories properly that their shouldn't mixed with each other and a user can easily distinguish them at his/her first sight than number of pages doesn't matter on website.
