E-Mix Software & Hardware Package

At the NADJ South meeting last night, one of the DJs was showing his digital playout system and it was a package that I haven't heard of before called E-Mix from Citronic.

I consisted of software which looked quite good and an all-in-one unit of controller, mixer and soundcard - connected via USB.

From what I saw it worked quite well and looked quite intuitive.

He said it was approx £280 + vat for the whole package which seems very reasonable.

Has anyone on here had any experience of it either in use or just reviewed it in their evaluation process?

I don't like the idea of a mixer and controller all in one. I can't imagine the quality is up to much and it doesn't look like there's any eq for the mic either.

Having said that, I've never used one, so can't really comment.

Well, this is the point. I sort of thought the same thing to but the sound output certainly sounded good to me.

It seemed to be quite well put together and a very neat unit and the software was nice.

My reason for asking is whether anyone had experience, if the software is reliable etc.

I didn't want to take that plunge of assuming something is rubbish just because its made by Citronic. Especially as the DJ showing it gave a very positive review (some might say, well he bought it he would wouldn't he) that I thought I might be a little objective about it.

So, the question still stands - has anyone tried or used this system?

Looks good but i prefer seperates. Just like a hifi seperates. If one thing breaks you can just unplug it and get it fixed but with these all in one packages if one thing goes wrong then you have lost the whole thing.

Not being nasty but if your a full time dj and using your gear most nights would you spend £329 on somthing like that. No offence ment to anyone, Just my view on it.

Well at that price you could afford to have a spare controller unit - superb backup.

So let me ask this, how much do you need to spend on your equipment to be a full time DJ? (is there a hint at professionalism there?)

Why is it ok to grab a bargain chair for the office but not to take advantage of a bargain bit of kit if it surprises you with its performance?

Its not all about price. You can spend very little on equipment and still be a full time dj. There nothing wrong with that but what i was getting at in my post was if that something did go wrong then you have lost the whole unit. Were if you had seperate then you can use a spare mixer for example and continure dj'ing till your original mixer has been fixed or replaced.

If you was working 5 nights a week, and earning quite a bit of money would you prefer to buy denon or critronic equipment for example.??? There nothing wrong with either. I mean i use behringer. I know a lot of people who hate them but thats what i can afford atm. I will be upgrading soon but thats kept shh for the time being.

Anyway.
