On my mixer I have 'Booth Output' connections. Could I

a. Use this instead of the main output
b. conect to a second amp.

Will there be any loss in quality or risk

a. Yes

b. Yes

If the booth output is balanced then it will be identical in quality to the balanced main outputs

a) The booth output normally bypasses the mic channels, using the booth output would be fine if you don't need to use the mic.

b) Yes. But you'll still have the limitations mentioned above.

I hadn't thought of that, must check next time I use two outputs. ;)

the booth output is designed so you can run a 2nd amp and speakers maybe in another room, or a moniter set up, and control its level separately from your main p/a. So you should have a booth level control slider or knob somewhere on the mixer.

As Shaun said, you may not get the mic output included in the booth signal. A lot of mixers give you the option for that though.

As far as I can remember, both mine have mic feed on booth output, but I will definitely check that out. Well worth bearing in mind.

the booth output is designed so you can run a 2nd amp and speakers maybe in another room, or a moniter set up, and control its level separately from your main p/a. So you should have a booth level control slider or knob somewhere on the mixer.

Actually it isn't - if configured properly, it is solely for the reason that you can run an amp and speakers right next to you and hear your mixer output (and sometimes your 'cue' audio) without the fear of introducing your microphone into the signal path and getting a bag full of feedback.

To do what you suggest, you're better taking the 'record' output to feed the other amp and set the output levels on the 2nd amplifier - using the booth would mean they hear the music but no speech and would sound odd.

Showoff! Now the one thing I can be sure of is that rec output bypasses the EQ settings on the mixer, and thus is sometimes a little lower output.

It is always a lower output, so that it doesn't distort / clip.

when i use my sound system at my local club i use my booth out to link into the club pa so as well as music on the dance floor it is also fed to the club speakers in the room i can have them as loud or quiet as i want
