View Full Version : Controller for LED lighting

Does anyone have any ideas for a suitable controller for two impossibleds a miracled and a marvelled? THe shop recommended the ACME CA-8 controller, but I really am no expert.

The CA-8 Controller is a very basic hand held controller that works with alot of Acme products. This controller can be a helpful tool but i have found it not very useful for LED lighting. I use one with my ImpossibLED and i only use on the controller is Strobe and Blackout functions as the others i think is pointless.

You can pick up a 2510 off ebay for around £50 and lightjockey is free to download

That's a playback controller and it won't run Acme fixtures will it?

Darren - I'm pretty sure LightJockey will work with any fixture you set it up with - people who use it don't just stick to Martin fixtures.

personally if you want something basic but still want some control go for something like a ACME DMX Master or if you want a PC based system you could go for something like Daslight.

Oh, When I googled it, it came up as around £1000, perhaps that included the laptop!

Thanks for the advice anyway, I've gone with the Master DMX from DJ store, so will let you know how I get on

Do you have a link to the Master DMX... just inetersted?


And I have never seen lightjockey where it has been free to download.... would you care to show us where?

Again I would pressume not.. seeing as Jamie doesn't just use martin units??

The 2510 will run any DMX unit.

...and before you ask, no you can't use the 2510 for live control from PC > lighting :(

Have tried using the dmx software before just cant get mey head round it at all is there any one easier than any others and can any of the software versions be use live or do they have to be programmed too..

Urm.
You can try the various ones like daslight, freestyler etc.

Daslight can be 'live' you just push the fader on the screen and it will change it like a normal controller would.

The trick to DMXing is just sitting down and learning how to do it. No other way of tackling it. So it takes a bit of patience but once you've figured out how your controller works with trial and error - it is all peachy!

Ahh.. same as my first controller!
Good choice!

It may take a bit of goggling and playing before you get the hang of it if you havnt used it before. But i;m willing to lend a hand - just call me up on msn.
