I bought the Numark HDCD1 new, I have started putting the tracks on the hard drive but now for some reason it wont boot up.
All I am getting is "Numark v0.25e" and just hangs there.
Tried restarting a few times now but does the same, anybody had this problem?

Haven't had chance to play with mine yet but have you down loaded HDCD1 manager on to your PC ?

Hya mate yeh I installed that from the cd and used it to upload the songs.
Also posted on the Numark forum but getting no replies at the moment :bang:
Am close to sending the thing back.
I have even asked them if I was to take out the hard drive and put in my pc and format it that way could this possibly solve the problem but had no replies

We have the D2 Director and have had no issues as such but this thing is driving me nuts at the moment :(

Try down loading drivers from their site which is what I did as I said haven't got mine set up yet cause I need to put my DAC 2 & laptop into another case, but it seems to be working well.

Hya diamondgeezer had some feedback on the problem from others that have had the problem.
Apparently inside the main unit there are jumpers, if you cross the jumpers it resets the units memory, like restoring the cmos on a pc I guess.
I sent mine back as its under warranty so didnt wanna start pulling it apart.

OK Thanks, beginning to wonder if I should put mine straight back on eBay and get the mixer with the storage card as I only got it as back up anyway.

Are Numark actually making them any more? I thought they'd given up on them because the general opinion of them was they're pants.

I dont know Steve, the idea behind it is good just needs updating so the hard drive side of things runs similar to the D2 and the CD side as a traditional double cd player with the addition of the keyboard.

I recall they had no end of problems when they brought them out, maybe they fixed the bugs?

Well the the HDCD1 went back as it was a firmware issue so a problem am not willing to risk so instead Ive got the Numark CDN95 CD decks with 3 years extended warranty for the same price of £499 that I paid for the HDCD1, I am a little happier as the CD decks are now independent of the hard drive setup so have 2 options if one breaks down.
Am gonna get a controller for the laptop and use the hard drive that way.
I was going to either get a D2 or Denon 2500 of my own but have decided to use the new laptop that I already have.
Have I made the right choice??????????

I'd've gone for the d2, especially as they now support USB CD drives.

But that's me. :p

Hya mate yeh I agree to a degree, the fella that I also help by doing the mixing for has the D2 and is a cracking unit, but can be a problem getting inspiration when choosing tracks due to the small screen which can be a disadvantage some times.
I do like the idea of a full laptop screen.
The main problem I have at the moment is Im building my own show from scratch so have to weight for certain things at the moment as I also want a decent sound system and dont really want to cut any corners there.
My idea is to try and get a good used Dac-2 and run on the laptop as I already have a decent laptop (Advent 9115) that has plenty of resources for what I need.
Who knows in the future I may upgrade but for now whilst am building ill have to rough it for a while :D

[QUOTE=KARL-D;213048can be a problem getting inspiration when choosing tracks due to the small screen[/QUOTE]

Well we must disagree ;)

I run a laptop AND a d2. The laptop is for background sets and the d2 gets the punishment later on. I tried it the other way round and didn't like it for various reasons, mostly the laptop made me lazy and some sets got a bit predictable.

With the d2 I use a combination of the "crate" function and pre-made playlists for common groupings of songs (eg "70s disco") to quickly whizz around the disk. I don't personally find the screen limiting at all. I thought I would, but in practice it's great.

The only real problem I have or had with the D2 was only viewing the title of a track, I haven't yet done a complete rebuild of the library with profiles etc. to see if they have altered this in the 1.9 firmware?
I did find that a huge problem though as I tend to go of artist then title, I hope they have included artist as that will give the D2 even more clout.

Press the Info button?

Thats in search mode, if you click on enter it will give full details of a track but in file mode which I use mostly the option isnt available?
Most of the artist that have had a few hits have they're own file for easy access but when it comes to the new 00s and general 00s it can be hard to know what tracks what as you dont see artist details which I generally associate certain tracks with, others may not have no problems with this but for me it can be a frustration I notice one of the other members that have just bought the Denon 2500 having similar frustrations yesterday.

We have been using the HDCD1 for almost a year now, and I would not recommend it to people. Although we have never had a problem which stops it from booting up completely, it has quite often frozen during use. From what we gather from Numark, after visits to their offices and several phone calls to them, they know it has problems, but don't really know how to fix them, hence the reason the D2 was released.

We also have a CDN95, and that we have been impressed with, a very nice player.
