Radio Mics

Radio Microphones. Ages ago, I posted a query about these, and was fairly sure I was going for a JTS, mainly due to great reports from folk on here. By chance I saw that a local shop, Electromusic Doncaster, had a range of mics in to compare. So today, off goes I, sat nav in full control, and arrives at said emporium. What a place!:eek: :eek: :D It looks like Aladdin's distribution warehouse! To cut a long story short, after trying more than one mic, I came home with a candidate from leftfield, Audio Technica 2120. This impressed myself and the assistant, very clear, very nice and all that remains is to roadtest it as soon as possible, will let you know how it goes. :)

My Shure broke down in December. The switch broke. I have a second mike which is an old Audio Technica but during December Jan and I are running linedancing and discos on the same nights; so we need two mikes. I rang Shure and spoke to them and explained it was just over a year old. What a surprise I got when the engineer told me it was still under warranty. Shure offer 24 months as standard. What a great company! I packed it up and posted it off to them express delivery and I had it back within a week in full working order. Well done Shure! Whilst it was away I bought a Gemini radio mike for £90 and was surprised at how good it was; so I have retired the Audio Technica.

I've always used Shure mics and the one slight problem I have with them are their switches. Way too recessed on the SM58 radio mics. The PG58 radio mic switches are a better idea if you've seen them.

Very few mics are spot on in this respect, I find that having control of each mic on the mixer is best bet where punters are concerned.
