Do you bet?

Following on from another thread, our hotel is right opposite a bookies and we often have a lot of punters who bet and drink, next week we have the Cheltenham Festival so expect to be busy, but how many will have a regular punt, whats your best / worst results?

Only if you count the Lotto. Not at a bookies since I changed my mind & didn't bet on a horse that came in 100 - 1

I have a bet everyday! I love my horse racing and am lucky to say that I only bet small and hardly ever have a bad day. I have made my mistakes in the past, blimey...but I have come out of the other side and now know what, how and when to bet.

I generally pick out one horse a day that I like the look of and bet each way on it if it is 4/1 or more. About 10 years ago I had a share in a racehorse, it wasn't one of those things where there can be 10,000 owners on it. There were 12 of us and it was quite expensive but such a thrill. We named the horse, chose the colours etc and all of the trainers fees and jockeys fees were in with the price. Pride of Kashmir ran 18 times on the flat and was placed 11 times if I remember rightly. He never won, got beaten in a photo once and his favourite tracks were Brighton and Folkestone. He went on to hurdles and won his first 3 races and then on to the jumps and got placed a couple of times before he was retired.

Cheltenham next week is a 'must watch' for me and I'll be picking one or two horses a day.

I voted for "Only the big ones like the Grand National" as I only have a couple of bets a year...although I could equally have voted for "occasional" as I don't really see much difference between those two options.

Isn't once or twice a year the same as occasional?

I voted no, however not 100% true although I do think bookies are for mugs.
I went to the dogs for the first time ever a couple of weeks back, it was a night out organised by our night club owner who owns several dogs. I did have a little flutter and walked out about £50 better off. I used the tote that comes to your table rather than the bookies down by the track.

i like the odd flutter, a bit of spread betting and some matched betting using offers from the online companies.
lots of freebies to be had over the past few years as they all compete for business- especially the spread betting which really becomes all about the maths.

yeah, i get my dad to put a bet on for me about once a week
