I got this enquiry today--sadly gives me the impression that the Peter Kay ads are having an effect:eek: :eek: :eek:

Enquiry: Hi, I wonder if you could give me some idea of cost for a disco for next February 2009, Masonic evening - black tie, with a good compare, who has a way to get people up and dancing, approx 200 people.

If I can call you and discuss or come along and see some of your evenings, that would be good.

I agree Daz, but reading between the lines though the tone of the email was
the DJs they have come across previously couldnt get people going and so they are on the lookout for someone who can.

The Peter Kay reference was (to use one of your expressions) that this enquirer thought a lot of Discos were unprofessional and naff, not capable of getting people off their seats.

Following Excaliburs comments which are appreciated do I assume that these gigs are notoriously difficult to play at --I havent done one for about 30 years?

Any DJs in Northampton area (or close) who fancy offering their services please PM me--requirement appears to be ability to get people off seats and a viewing at one of your gigs:eek:

Probably no more than any other, Alan, It's just that this particular annual one is small numbers, and a mainly older crowd. I do enjoy doing it, it's a Disco Jim, but not as we know it. :D If it's a purely Masonic function, then it's likely that the average age will be higher, with probably fewer younger ones than normal.

They just had a Social event with Rat Pack Type singers, but couldnt get people dancing--SO they want a mature DJ who can get people going with all the old corny lines like--first couple on the floor with xxxxxxxxxxx win a prize etc. and of course Lets Twist again, Rock n Roll etc.

They dont want any old DJ behind a console with flashing lights---

I told em its not me they need but maybe someone of a mature age with a lot of experience covering Masonic events and having music to suit persons mainly over 50 I would guess!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe by asking for someone who will get people dancing, they just mean someone who will play appropriate music for those at the function - which they will respond to by dancing...rather than wanting someone who will give it verbals on the mic.

I'm not saying that's what they mean, just that it's a possibility.

They might want a combination of the two, but either way I'd have asked what they meant, just to clarify what they were looking for.
