Mackie Subs - Dilema

Well boys and girls, I have found myself in a right old pickle... I have a pair of these already:

And I'm looking for some subs to go with them... but I'm having a bit of a dilema... do I go for these (Standard sub)

Use is obviously discos, but also a bit of live sound here and there. Thanks!

I'd go for the first link personally. 10" subs will give a tighter bass, but won't go as low.... plus its more to go wrong!

If it was me i would go for the S218S as you already have full range speakers with dual 15" drivers.

Having the 18" would get those deeper notes.

Im surprised the existing speakers dont give terrific bass already?

If your lugging 2 column speakers around with 2 15s in it I would expect the payback to be you dont need bass speakers.

If you had Mackie SRMs different story.

Admittedly 18 inch speakers are the ultimate for bass--but modern 15s should produce plenty of bass.

I worked with a DJ who had the big Peavey equivalent of your exisitng speakers--blow your head off volume and bass--more than adequate for up to 300 people.

Its your choice--:D

The way I see it is if you want to hump 18" bins about then go for a good pair of them as the sound will be superb, however 15" are that bit smaller and mostly lighter to cart around but mostly if a good pair still a superb boom.

At the moment for the largest gigs we have Peavey UL 15s for top and mid, 15" subs cant remember whats in them as custom made but very good inners for directional bass and 18" Peavey black widow folded bins for the long throw.
Although for most gigs the (working men's clubs size) ULs and 15" bins are more than plenty and don't have to ever really push them to get a good boom.
We are also thinking of getting a pair of 12" bins so we get full range independently.

I know a DJ with the Class-D equivalent of what you have ;) and Bass is no problem. They even get used as subs themselves! With 15" drivers above, I'd recommend 18" , but that's only personal feeling, not based on anything other than wanting to see speaker diameter fall with increasing frequency.
