Laptop packages?

Hello,

Am I able to buy a complete laptop package, with DJ software and songs already installed?
Ive seen the 00DJ for £2,3000 but wondered if there was anywhere that would sell B-Grade, or low spec laptops a little cheaper?

Im only going to use it for home use/practising etc, so it doesn't have to be 100% reliable or a top spec.

I found a guy selling an Advent laptop with PCDJ and 7500 songs installed on Ebay recently for £75. This is the sort of thing Im looking for.

I would suggest that buying a low grade laptop would be a false economy. Remember that if you are DJing using a laptop and it goes down then you are not DJing anymore. Cheap components etc blow very easily so in my opinion it is well worth buying a trusted brand and I would certainly buy new. Acer tends to be pretty good value for money. I'm not particularly keen on specialist DJ latops, but then that's just me, I like to configure my own but I appreciate not everyone has that knowledge.
Also what version of PCDJ is it? A licence for FX is still about £120 last time I looked so it sounds like a fake. There are often a few knocking around and I would pretty much guarantee the 7500 tracks are not legal. Personally I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole.

Im not too bothered about the reliabilty. Im only going to use it to play around with at home.
Just didn't want to be bothered transfering all my CD's onto a laptop, if there was a laptop available that already had songs installed. But on hindsight can see that there may have been a legal issue here.

Fair enough. Have you considered getting a desk-top? Its just they're a lot cheaper and you get more for your money (except portability)

Portability and space was the main reason for looking at laptops.

May just get a cheapy off ebay.
Want to get Mixmeister software, that i think is about £100, so want a laptop for about £100/£150 ideally.

I got a Compaq laptop, ex-corporate refurbished. Downloaded OTSDJ Boombox (now Turntables) plus licence. Added in an external soundcard.

200 quid the lot, fully legal, hasn't missed a beat in 8 months so far.

A fairly high spec laptop with external soundcard and you can't go wrong. To start off with try kramixer www.kramware.com to see if digital dj'ing suits you. Word of warning if using kramixer - it is VERY basic and do not use on a computer connected to the internet as you get annoying pop-ups.

I've just been through the process of copying a 400 cd collection, plus the best of 100 mastermix classic cuts onto my laptop.....it was dull dull work, especially trying to ensure everything has standardised tagging...and then sorting them into folders/playlists....

Getting sleepy thinking about it. Welcome to the Digital Revolution....!!

One option, if you're not going to run it as a business and only for home use, you could join napster (a few pounds a month from memory) and get unlimited downloads for your songs.

As for software, there are some very cheap options on ebay you could try.

Seems daft to spend loads of you're just practicing. Just bear in mind, the napster songs won't be legal if you play in public.
