Any Video DJs on here?

What kit do you use?

How often do you go out as a VDJ rather than straight DJ?

Yup.

We use R4 for delivery. All content is digitised.

Never ever get booked purely for video; just mix it up a bit with abstract graphics, shadowdancers and slideshows (B+G etc.). It's a popular value-add.

What is R4? I know you mentioned it to me before, but I can't find any mention of the programme anywhere.

Takes some playing with, but for 200 notes it's an absolute steal. Using the various modules you can play out live or pre-recorded video too, which is how I get to use a dancefloor camera as well as pop videos, shadowdancers (ripped from DVD) etc.. Download the free version and have a play.

I have a video guy. Our current setup is quite impressive, as I sort of sub him out, I don't own the equipment, however he only provides the in disco/club for me.

We have:
2x 2.7m wide Dalite Dual-way screens (on quick cranked stands)
2x Short throw projectors 3000 Lumens (means they sit about 4ft away from the screen and fill a 2.7m gap!)
2x Normal projectors, 3500 Lumens for other projection
1x Panasonic Video Mixer (4 inputs - actually designed for theatres, so has stupid amounts of features, such as luma keys etc
1x Tascam DVD player with Com - Computer connection allowing two users to control th DVD player over Com ports

We also use R4, Music DVDs, Live footage, slideshows you name it - we show it.

Various other DVD players, TV screens and an awful lot of BNC cables!

As I said - it's not mine, but is what we use.

I use OTS DJ...simple and effective!

Yep i do Vjing and am slowly starting to include it as part of the standard rig rather than trying to sell it as a separate service ...

I use Virtual DJ (also very simple and effective and cuts out the need for vision mixers, DVD decks/players, and a lot more cables...)

It's usually hooked up using 10m VGA cables (depending on where it's positioned) to either:

2x 19" tfts for small venues
1x 42" plasma for most size venues
2x 2000 lumen projectors and 6ft screens

Or mixture of all of the above.

And can loan 2 8x6 fastfold screens if i need them

James

Have you got any pictures of your screens and stuff set up? Apart from the plasma, you have the same kit list as me for this!

Have you got a stand for the plasma?

How do you transport it?

Yeah have on the home machine... Sat doing a PA for a conference dinner dance at the moment so will have to sort them when at home...

Plasma wise i have a flightcase for it - wouldn't even want it to leave my house without one really... (don't really like it leaving the house anyway :P )

At the moment i have a basic plasma stand that goes up to 1.5m but i'm working on adapting a wall bracket to allow me to fly it from a truss... But it's still work in progress so will do a topic about it once it's created and errrr working :)

Ultimax now do a braket for LCD screens apparently, but it only for up to 23" screens. Seems a bit pointless to me.

I video jockey,

I use Numark Cue with the Numark DMC2 controller to allow some control over the vides too.

I have 1 plasma screen in a roadcase on wheels where it doesn't leave, Looked at all the options of flying it from the truss and it just seems all too pointless for the work that i am getting off of it.
The other point of mounting it on the rig i was told that, people trying to watch the plasma will be dazzled by the lighting effects that are up there too.

The Plasma sits in front of my deckstand perfectly without the need for a starcloth on the booth then, I also use a BenQ projector which is mounted on the truss on a power drive T-Bar what comes away from the trussing to allow the distance required to get a big enough picture on the screen.

Also recently we purchased a new Arkaos system and also a new pc to allow more powerful control over visuals and be able to run slideshows and live camera feeds too.

The problem with only having the plasma on the stand is when a few people are dancing in front of it you then can't see it...

Although can see your point about with the lights on the truss too it could affect the viewing of the plasma (although shouldn't be too bad).... but what about this for another option....

What about having 3 Tbars on wind up stands... Most can take 50 - 60kg... i'd have one on the left with lighting on... One on the right with lighting on then fly the plasma off the 3rd Tbar and have it behind the DJ but up high so everyone can see it but it's away from the lighting...

Perfect for venues where you dont have the space to front or rear project.

Now i like that idea james,

Might see if power drive do a really strong t-bar or might even get a 1.5m piece of truss and adapt it to one power drive stand.

But yeah think it could work... Just still need to work on getting a truss type bracket for the plasma..

Have emailed ultimax to ask but no reply as yet... possibly something to do with easter :D
