I have had a good look on there website only to find somthing intresting. I dont know if this has been covered but i have had a look from the search bar but couldnt find anything so i thought i would bring it up.

I took this from there website.

"DMC's DJ Only products are licensed by the PPL and MCPS, royalties for which are incorporated in the selling price."

So i take it if i only buy the DJ Only series of cd's and get a gig where a licence would be needed, i wont need to worry as the fee's have been paid already???


Is this correct or am i reading this wrong?

Only the tracks that are on the DMC DJ Only Cd's will be covered by the PPL Licesnse so in theory you would need a seperate license for all your other tracks.

Looks it this way you would need to buy alot of Dj only cds to get your current music selection and even then you wouldn't have the vast selection you have now as they was only started a few years back.

I was just thinking. I know it would take a long time and lot of money but if i did buy all my cd's from them then i wont have to pay for this licence at all i take it???

It is alot of money to invest in cd's to be honest with you,
and i don't think DMC even have enough discs in their catalogue to cover your whole collection.

I guess so. After having a look at what they do have i think i will be buying more from them as they have some good box sets. Some of the songs i have already but then again its like that with most cd's you buy unless you are looking for a certain genre, artist ect.

Just orded one to see whats its like. Got a school disco coming up so i guess i could use it then.

Every month from DMC i get the following

DMJ DJ Only
DMC Commectial Collection
DMC Essential Hits
And any new box sets or cds they bring out

Mastermix:

Mastermix Issues
Mastermix Pro-Disc
Mastermix Grandmaster
Mastermix ProDance
And another cds or box sets that they bring out.

Always good to keep in with these two companies as they are cheap, reliable and have the music before most shops like HMV, Woolworths have them.

Thats a lot of expense for keeping up to date! Any why get both, since there's only going to be one or two that are on one, but not the other?

Have you looked at CD Pool? They seem to be more up to date, and contain less padding tracks than the DMC and Mastermix equivelants.

Well i like to keep upto date, Cd pool does look good but never seemed to be anything on their discs that i would be likely to use unlike DMC and Mastermix always put on their discs something that will be used if you get me.

I get cd pool radio and dance each month and not found i am missing any of the big tracks

Fair enough, but it looks as though CD Pool covers all the same stuff anyway, just earlier...

I just can't see how spending £100+ a month on new music can be viable...

I spend a maximum of £80 a month and that covers anything i dont have in my collection. It can be either new or old music.

£100+ does seem a lot of money but then i guess if your dj'ing these kinds of event where new music is vital then i supose its money worth spending.

It does seem a lot of money to me, I'm spending no more that £30 a month, or am I not spending enough. However I suppose it depends on what you have in your collection already.

Agreed, although it depends to an extent of the type of gigs you do.

I don't spend much more than that on NEW music in a whole YEAR!

Well with me being a Club Dj aswell as a mobile dj it is essential music is upto date all the time for the club and also like to keep it fresh for the mobile work.
I don't mind spending that sort of money as i know i will easily make it back in one night so it isn't a problem to me.

I am looking at taking cd pool out and cancelling the current DMC subscriptions that i have at the moment.

You're reading it right as long as you don't copy the CD. To hard drive, for example.
If you do, then you'll need the new licence.

What they are saying is correct, the royalties are paid to those companies just as they would be for any other cd you bought from woollies.

Ahh. Ok, maby i got that wrong. I thought i would be able to copy them to my hdd and not have to pay the licence. As you said, bit like any cd off the shelf in woollies.
