Our customers just love them!

Bought them from a DJ who was giving up and have had nothing but positive comments, it's great.

no i jest all effects have their time an place the pic imo would have been the coolest thing i'd ever seen ..... in 1985 but to me i look for a different kind of effect from my rig ..... no not all latest hi-tec stuff my centre piece is a mirrorball just a different look.

The only downside to light boxes is you need a decent sized van to carry them, BUT if you get good ones they do look wicked and can really make a show.

Yeah I still use light screens and think they serve a purpose. I love the arch. I always meant to buy one but never got round to it.

How do you know your customers love them? Do you ask? If you do ask, they are hardly likely to say they are horrible are they?

Customers wouldn't book them if they didnt like them they would just have the basic package.

The venue we went to Saturday were impressed too, they said DJ's usually turn up with two speakers and a light LOL

I actually think the majority of people like light screens, obviously I have no way of proving this, but that is my instinct. I just think that it's modern DJs that don't like them, as they are trying to move away from the 'old image'.

I'm not moving away from the 'old image' I stopped using screens about 15 years ago, so I have well and truely left the building.

I've had more prospective brides this year ask for white lighting than ever before. And the reason? Because they don't want a multi coloured disco with traffic light boxes.

People like that sort of stuff, along with balloons and decorations etc.

I've seen a lot of 'modern' disco lighting which is a lot 'tackier', such as those cheap looking fake flames.

Depends on the type of clients--

I dont have the space to carry them, but mixed with modern effects can be very effective---the Wedding job I did with Clive last year was a good example.

It's not a case of not wanting people to like them. How on earth could I do that? I sell an image and screens aren't part of that image. Whatever you say about them, screens are not a classy image.

And yes, you're right, I don't think they are good for us as an industry as whenever you see a Peter Kaye type DJ portrayed on the TV in a show or on an advert, they always have screens, spot banks and a rope light.

I don't want to be associated with that.

I think a lot of people will like them. I take a lot of bookings from people specifically asking fo not many flashing lights. This comes mainly from older people and groups where there is a wide age range. I think it is good you have them to offer - if it does not appeal to some people do not use them for their gig. A lot to be said for 'back to basics' sometimes IMO

Still have a pair myself but they haven't seen any work for about 2 years since someone kicked the plastic through on one of them and I've not got round to repairing. Might be worth the expense if only for the kids parties I get.

When I worked with Clive at the Wedding last year it was in my opinion pretty upmarket (expensive and attended by professional people not oiks ) and when I finished my warm up spot for an hour the guests came on to the Dance floor to Disco immediately--the music was the focus not the lighting--which incidentally had a large amount of light screens:D

I understand where Daz is coming from professionally but theres a lot of people out there with different tastes---or in some cases no taste!!!!!!

Just bought another prolight star cloth but with Blue LEDS this time, See how long this one lasts and then if it fails me im going to give S&H a call and order a star cloth from them.

Buy the booth Steve - expensive but in a different class to the cloths. I've had a couple of the cloths and the first one lasted just over a year and the transformer died, a lot of the leds went and the straps and ties started falling apart too.

I believe NJD do a wool serge cloth now too.

LED LIghtboxes are currently all the rage and I also still use my old ones as well alongside them people love them most of the time very few people ask for a booth around here only the corporate use mainly or ultra posh hotels, most of these are even asking to supply a good old fashioned disco now. So I now supply an all round disco with something from all lighting era's from ropelights to lasers. Its really horses for courses what you use but Lightboxes are very in at the moment

When I started out in the 60's obscured perspex was not readily available; so my original light boxes has frosted glass. I once had a girl put her foot through one and cut herself quite badly. Since the advent of plastic, however, I have not had any damage - touch wood.:zip:

I like both the original and new LED light screens. the Arch looks good but would be interested to see them in action. I think light screens make a good centre piece and lights up the dance floor.
