Short notice anniversary booking

I have just taken a short notice booking for a 5th anniversary forthis saterday (22/03/08). Im meeting up with the client tommorow to get the t&c signed and have a little chat about anything that needs to be discussed)

They have also hired a band aswell so it should be an intresting night. Plus its in a pub. Its going to be a tight squeeze. :lol:


My question is...

How do i treat this gig???

Do i treat it like a wedding in a way or should i do the opposite???

Any advice or tips would be great. :)

I would just play it as a normal gig....

Unless they have a 'plan' in what they want you to play or a playlist.
What type of band may give you a clue, if you know that...

Also how old are they?
Suppose their 1st song would spring to mind as well....:)

Not to sure about the band but i will ask tommorow. Plus if its a cover band i will ask for a set list so i know what songs not to play that they are covering.

They sound like a young couple but its hard to tell on the phone.

The first song would be a good idea i think.

Check the first song, for sure, find out the band's set list and find out if they want you to play similar stuff to the band or completely different stuff - sometimes people hire a DJ to keep the crowd warm for the band, other times it's so other tastes can be catered to.

Ok, just got back from meeting with the client. This looks intresting.

They have asked for Reggae, Chart, 50's, 60's plus a few slow songs like bryan adams and a few others.

The veune is quite large so im going to have to take the sub which means 2 trips but its only a 15 mins drive so not so bad i guess.

They didnt say and i forgot to ask (as he was talking about him being a dj, :rolleyes: ) but they did say its a "family band" so im guessing nothing to heavy or mad.

Im guessing a covers band. The band is on for an hour then its me to keep the mood up or if not, then lifted. :)

The plot thickens.

I find this rather rude but anyway. The client called last night at 10.50pm. :eek:

I took the call as i looked at the number and it was them. I found out that the guitarist from the band had quit and asked if could start an hour early. This band is the clients band. Hey ho

Im still dont get why they couldnt phone today, not when im about to go to bed. :mad:

My old boss had 'office hours' clearly listed on every bit of info that left the office (pre website) yet on one occasion his wife took a call from a groom at 12:30am - she was woken up and thought that someone must be ringing regarding an accident/emergency... no, it was a month until this particular groom's wedding, he'd gotten drunk with some mates and wanted to ask some questions regarding music!

That is a really annoying, but not uncommon, situation. What you have to remember is that people may work during office hours and so cannot call you then. Simple solution to that little problem. I use a mobile phone for business. I'm not in the 'office' (spare bedroom) much anyway. I have 2 mobile phones and the business one gets switched off at 9.30 so I don't take calls later than that. All calls made then go to the answerphone which, in turn, sends a text to my other mobile to tell me I have a message. If I'm not busy, I'll retrieve the message and make a callback if necessary. Problem solved.

I'm not sure if this will work for everyone but it suits me!

By 9.30 i mean 9.30 PM! I have my phone on for the whole morning!
