View Full Version : Where do you store your equipment ??

I don't think I will be the only one who keeps getting nagged from the other half about kit lying around etc etc. Not yet able to afford my large mansion with seperate storage for equipment I take over the spare room, living room, kitchen etc etc. I have tried self storage but found it inconvenient so am wondering where you store your equipment.

Obviously the last thing I want to do is jeopardise your security so if you feel uncomfortable posting for that reason please don't.:zip:. Am just after ideas and reassurance that I am not the only one to take over the house (I hope)

I've got a room on the ground floor of the house that's used solely for everything DJ related. The 'wife' has managed to squeeze in her sunbed too. That may have to go to make way for more gear....but I'm just to afraid to tell her. :D

I thought we'd just done this topic too, anyway I have took some pics, coz im anal....lol, and like looking at pics so i assume others probably do too.

the 1st pic is my garage looking straight on as you drive in, the 2nd is my shed which is through a door on the right of my garage.

the 3rd is looking from the back corner of the garage and you can see the door to the shed part.

it's alarmed, and has security lights front and back and is protected by having gardens with tall fences front and back, and a staffordshire bull terrier....lol

Keep most of it here but lights and cabs are stored where I do the bulk of my work in a large secure and alarmed store room.

Speakers, stands and lighting go in a cupboard, whereas my CDs and playouts go up to my bedroom or in the living room, as I use them in my spare time too.

My gear stays mostly in my van which is alarmed and parked on the property. Someone is home most of the time so I'm pretty comfortable with this. That said, I usually move it into the spare room if we go away for more than a few hours and definitely for over nights. Sometimes the dining room plays host to some of the gear, too, especially if it's having work done on it.

In my box trailer mostly or basement if more than 2 weeks between gigs or if it gets too cold (seen it get to -24C here, worse up north).

Very good Steve!!!! I was looking through the thread and had to laugh when I saw you great sense of humour!!! Good on ya!

As for storing gear: Mosly the dining room. It has always been the 'music' room and fortunately it's big enough for all the disco gear and desk etc., Always bring gear in after the weekends.

There's a big conservatory at the back of my dads house (used to be my bedroom). Most of the gear goes in there and whats left goes upstairs in his spare room. It's a nightmare bringing down for last minute gigs tho!

Well all my gear is stacked up in it's flightcases in my garage,
Through the winter there is some small fan heaters in there just to make sure nothing gets damp and that it all stays at room temperature.

All the gear is kept off of ground level too, Just incase any flooding occurs or any spillages such as chemicals and petrol that are also stored in there.

costs roughly £50 a month but it's well worth it, 24 hr access, security cameras, etc.

i couldn't be bothered having to unload all the kit into the house at 2 in the morning

There is a place like that near me too, but I reckon it would be a lot more hassle moving your gear in and out of these places than your own house, due to the amount of security gates and doors to go through. Are you sure they're open 24-7? Seems a little strange, as most of these warehouses are meant as long term storage solutions (ie. storing your house contents between moving houses)

Or even to answer the question at all on a public forum...Yes, I did ponder as to whether I should post in this thread, but I think the risk for myself is fairly minimal, seeing as the majority of my equipment is very securely locked away. It's the £10000 grandfather clock in the hallway just next to my front door that I'm worried about! :p

A cubby hole i the garage, With shelving etc. Also there are bits all over the house as well. My dad aint happy :D:D

JayDee met my security system yesterday. Long hair, savage disposition, fearsome bite , and not a very sunny attitude to strangers!:eek: Still, she's my wife, so my problem! :D :D The dog quite liked him though!;) :D :D
