Camcorder Advice

Good Morning Folks,

I am looking to by myself a new camcorder and I would like to ask your advice because the one I do get must have the following features:-

Remote Control

Night Vision

Snap shot facility (to take pics)

Swivel screen so I can frame up things from the front.

USB lead so I can upload pics/vids to pc

Any ideas or help on models that have these features???

I have a Sony that has all those features, but it is a few years old. I would have thought that most modern camcorders have all of those features to be honest Garry.

Good idea, but then after they've recommended something, I would have a Google for it to see what other people think of it. I've always bought Sony as they use Carl Zeiss lenses which are pretty good.

Surely that would depend on the model rather than the make? Having said that, Panasonic and Sony are normally pretty good generally.

My dithering just cost me £12, the price is going up at Amazon :(

My friend just bought a new Panasonic model £350 -not sure of model yet.

Top tip. Apparently for best quality he was advised go for tapes rather than hard drive.

Apparently the images on hard drive models are compacted -like music MP3s so you dont get ultimate quality--depending on whether thats an issue for you.

Unless anyone knows differently?

Many Hard Drive / DVD / Memory Stick models have variable quality / compressions options. I know the one I linked to earlier can be set to high quality but this cuts the amount of video on an 8Gb stick from just under 3 hours down to about 65 minutes (Sony have just released a new 16Gb stick though :))
