Hi all from our band

Hi everyone - I joined this forum because I'm hoping to get some good advice on which type of stage lighting to get for our band - NJD spectre or Icolour? LED or Halogen?
Our six piece band, Spooky, are based in Essex and picking up a lot of work now in large pubs, clubs and functions, and we have decided to invest in some stage lighting to illuminate the band and audience.

Having seen some of the threads on the techy forum there is some great advice out there, and I'm looking for dj's who use or have used these types of lights before I buy on behalf of the band.

You'll certainly get some opinions. There are some on here would use Pars (LED or otherwise) others iColors, the debate will rage on. :sj:

Hi there and welcome to the forum,

I use 2 Icolour4 for karaoke, seen alot of bands with them, they are very versatile lighting effects and you won't need any other lighting if you use these, Get the foot controller for your front man to control them and if you have a sound engineer then get him a Icolour colour mixer which is a fantastic piece of kit.

LED Blinders...

First image shows 4 units lighting a small band (set to 40% intensity). 8 x LEDJ 64s on the back if anyone's interested.

Second photo shows effect when used behind a band, again on about 40%).

Product image shows two units together.

Will cost you around £600 per two units, flightcased. No heat, low power comsumption, and very long life.

On full intensity, I have successfully used the 4 units to light a 10 piece band on a large stage.

Certainly an option for you to consider.

Hi there,

I still use traditional par 56 with 300watt bulbs in.
Not convinced with the LED equivalents as yet even a par 64 LED isn't as bright as a normal par56 (although they do vary between manufacturer/price) then there's that aforementioned price to concider.
You could get 8 normal 56's + the controller to power them & the stands for about £300 where as LED would be 4x that.

Most bands do still use traditional 56's there must be a reason for it :)

But before i'm shot down in flames by some wise remark yes LED's last a long time they are more enviromently friendly, i supose & they have infinite colour options. But that said gels for cans are cheap enough. I think LED's are good for this new fad on venue painting but thats about it.

One last thing to think about though.

Like I said I use 8x par56 and recently worked with a solo singer who used a pair of NJD Quartet. I switched my par cans off because you couldn't tell they were on, the quartets were that bright.

I was impressed enough to buy a pair myself £280 with foot controller (mixes colours to give any you like & dimms, chases etc)not to mention they are small and robust and can light a pretty big room - not suitable if you want to save the planet though power hungry little blighters

I don't think so, I looked at the LED 64's in my local shop and they looked good in the showroom (even the shop agreed LED56's arn't up to much)
I was set to buy some until I was at a christmas party as a guest and the disco there had a set up and running.

My partner comes to every disco with me so she knows all about kit too, we both commented that they just wern't as good as what we already had.
Put me off straight away. They just havn't got the throw of a normal 56
in my opinion

Just think you took the asumption that because they cost more they must be better. I'm sure oneday they will be but for now its like everything that new, expensive and will become better and cheaper.
