I can honestly say that I've always done all my jobs to the very best of my ability, from the bank through to the mobile discos & quiz nights, and it's nice when people appreciate what you do & compliment you.
At my quiz nights, I regularly get people saying how good my voice is, and asking if I'm on the radio etc, which I find very flattering.
Last night, someone went one better. She spent what seemed like 5 minutes complimenting me on my voice, charisma & presentation of the quiz, before eventually saying she would let me get on with packing away now. I thanked her very much, and told her that she'd made my day, and that it was the nicest thing anyone had said to me this Easter, which it was.
Tonight, that got surpassed. The leader of one of my regular teams said how much her team enjoyed my quizzes. Not only that, but she then handed me a big box of Roses chocolates and a card. The card read "Dear Rob, Hope you had a very happy Easter. Thank you soooooo much for making our Mondays/Wednesdays so much fun. You're great! Lots of love from 'It's a dogs life' xxxx"
I was almost speechless. Its nice when you get verbal compliments, but it's just a pub quiz, so for someone to go out of their way to buy me a box of choccies & a card because they enjoy what I do so much, all I can say is that I was over the moon.
When things like that happen, it makes everything so worthwhile.
I don't often blow my own trumpet, usually the exact opposite, in fact...so I hope I'll be excused on this occasion!
