Prove you are a genius.....
In this file, you will find names of the people who have managed to open it...... now it's your move!

How to open attached file?....

There is a bus with 7 girls
Each girl has 7 bags
In each bag, there are 7 big cats
Each big cat has 7 little cats
Each cat has 4 legs

Question: How many legs are present in the bus?
Number of legs is password to open attached file. (By the way the password is NOT "Number of Legs")

If you open the file, write your name on the list inside, and send this email to your friends to let them solve this riddle.

I did this ages ago - a little clue is that EACH girl has SEVEN bags. It took me a while to work it out.

Like so many of these, you make one error, which fouls it all up. One of the steps is to add, rather than multiply, at one point.;) The other tip is to work backwards. :D

Penmare, I wonder if the sheet is a bit corrupted, you should see what it did when I went in!:eek: :eek:

How is that a clue? That's stated in the question.

I admit, I fouled it up first try, but the methodology is simple...

Ascertain how many of each character there are and then multiply each of them, individually, by the number of legs, then add all of the totals, eg...

7^1 girls (2 legs each)
7^2 bags (0 legs)
7^3 big cats (4 legs each)
7^4 small cats(4 legs each)

Easy :D

As I said earlier, the total doesn't allow for the bus-driver to have any legs, or he's parked up, ducked off, and is attending to nature (or is being intimate with the girls' teacher ;) ).

That's a good point, Al...and something I was also wondering about.

I haven't done the maths for the rest of the puzzle, but if there were girls on a bus, then they were obviously under 18, in which case none of them could be the driver, but it's unlikely they would be on a driverless bus...although the driver is not mentioned.

I think 2 legs need to be added to the total to account for the driver.

Yes. It is quite easy, When I posted the 'clue' I was just re-inforcing the fact that it's sometimes very easy to 'scan' over these things and not read the question properly. First couple of times I did it (about 3 months ago) I got it wrong as I was assuming each girl had 1 bag each rather than reading the question properly!!!

If you're over 16, you're an adult. If you're over 18 you can drink alcohol & smoke. As a bus is an enclosed public space this excludes smoking & a lot of councils have laws against consumption of alcohol in public places so that is doubtful too. For one of them to be driving the bus however would make the person concerned over 21 as that is the age at which you can hold a PSV licence.

& a girlfriend is a girlfriend regardless of her age.

A group of women can also be refered to as girls (see Shania Twain's Man! I Feel Like A Woman (or isn't that in your top 100))

I disagree.

You seem to be confusing reaching the age of consent with being an adult. I think the two are different things.

This is confirmed by the following defenition I found in a UK dictionary. There is no mention of the age of consent. I'd also suggest that someone of 16 is still growing.

An adult under British law is someone over 18 years old.

Have you never heard of a girls night out / in? These would usually include the consumption of alcohol something that "girls" by your definition cannot legally do.

Exactly...which brings us back to the first post which describes the puzzle.

It talks about girls on a bus. I simply suggested that you might need to add two legs to the answer, as there is no mention of the driver, which a bus usually has...and the driver is unlikely to be one of the "girls on the bus"

Al had also mentioned the same point.

With all due respect, I'm not going to discuss this anymore, as it's another one of those occasions where I make a simple comment (in this case, suggesting that you might need to add 2 legs to the answer, as the bus driver is unlikely to be one of the girls)...and one or more people then decide to turn it into a massive argument.

The same point had also been brought up by Al, but nobody argued with HIM!

I'm sure we both have better things to do with our time!

This subject was all done & dusted, but for some reason Steve felt the need to bring it up again a few hours ago...

...possibly in an attempt to wind me up after my suggestion on the other forum that someone who was changing from Mackies to Class D was downgrading.

I'd have thought his vulgar reply on the other forum would have been sufficient to do that, but he obviously had other ideas.
