What light controler?

Hya folks just looking for a bit of an insight to what good light controllers are out there, not necessarily DMX but with chase and real time sound to light via a lead being plugged in rather than having its own built in mic.

If I can find one at the right price I wouldn't mind the Pulsar Zero 4001, pricey new but seem to be going for lowish second hand prices.
Are there any others out there that are good controllers that don't cost the earth?

Are you thinking along the lines of a chaser for lightboxes or for chasing effects?

I use an NJD 4004s. I find it very good and it wasnt too expensive.

Hya Richard possibly light boxes, spot banks etc.
Also I know that allot of the newer led type lights have the built in mics but to be honest I prefer the idea of having them plugged in to a system were they pickup certain beats so actually plugged in to some kind of controller then the mixer???

For boxes & spotbanks I would use a JBsystems 4000, It has several different programs and is completely dimmable (did i spell that right) anyway, it has a line level input for the sound (direct from mixer) and similar to the pulsar it 19" rack & can be set to split the channels into bass, mid , alto & treble.

You could then use this via a bulgin to your stand. Install a connection box (can be bought ready made - have one somewhere) which has a bulgin input and four IEC outputs one for each channel.

Now you have chasing effects. Any sound to light will work in this way just a case of how much control you want over them / ie patterns etc will post a pic of the one i use and the box soon as i find one

Yeh that's the idea fella, I prefer this way as when the sound goes down so do the lights and so much more precise to the music.
I would imagine that if I were to use those boxes with 4 IEC to 1 Bulgin then to the controller I could have whatever top led lights running at true sound to light?
As a basic example 2 led par cans on either end of the stand connected to the controller reproducing the bass of the track?

I would think it's a distinct possibility but I have no experience with LED in fact until I joined here I had no real interest in them but now i'm starting to see the light (get it, the light,lol)
The thing to keep in your mind is how quickly the lighting effect switches on after power up, for example if your effect takes a few seconds to set after receiving power it wont work, in fact it will most probably brake.

Hya Richard yes thats a very good point about the power, from memory they can take 3-4 seconds to config themselves so not an option for them.
I do like light screens and was thinking of getting a couple of the iron cross ones but just dont have the room in the car so will have to go with a star cloth. :(

I had a "zero88 FX4" light controler I used when I was doing disos in Scotland.
It was the coolest' controller from the late 80s' with a very' realistic "sound to light and built in 4 ch strobe controller blah blah blah.:) :) :)
Wish I could find another one...anyone?
