View Full Version : Been moaning about MP3 Quality
Interesting test for those who think they can tell the difference between things encoded at 320 and things encoded at 128.

Interesting! It all really depends on your speakers though :D

Yeh - I got it wrong first time too!
I think it is a very close run thing.. and of course there are a lot of other factors that affect the sound quality too!

Same here. I played it on my pc speakers and got it wrong. I then tryed it again on my nearfield studio speakers and you can hear a bit of a difference. Not much of a difference but if you dont know what you are looking for then you wont hear any difference at all.

What about the difference between 256 (which I've ripped my music at) and 320?
I'd suggest nobody could tell the difference...certainly none of the punters at any of my discos!

This site has travelled a lot, ive seen it pop up on at least 5 forums today. I could tell the difference, just. I rip all my music in V0 anyway.

I got it right, but it was close. I'm also playing through the speakers on my monitor, which are poor to say the least.

I could tell a slight difference. It's a different story though when you play it out through a high quality system. The lower bitrate ones can sometimes sound a little 'muddy'. They seem to lose that high end clarity. However, I've found very little difference between 192, 256 and 320. And if I can't tell the difference, how would the punters know?
Some tracks also are much better produced than others, this can make a bigger difference than the bitrate conversion.

I could hear a slight difference on my PC speakers, but only after repeated listens. If you weren't looking for it you wouldn't know. I'll have to try something similar through my gig rig.

I listen to each clip once through my £1 pair of headphones on got it right first time. I think the 320 clip is much clearer and richer sounding than the other recording.
I think it's a bad clip to test it out with as it would be come more obvious on a clip were musically more was happening.
