Brace yourselves. We have been, and when he has unpacked his new toys, I'm sure JayDee will regale you with tales of our escapades, at one point we were demoing secondhand Mackies, in the Class-D shop! . Little bit surreal, that one. Suffice to say the customer bought the Mackies. With a bit of prodding and vigorous negotiation, Justin bought a superb system, over his original spec and budget, but life's like that sometimes.

I won't steal Justin's thunder, cos he's a little bit excited at the moment. There are one or two other things to say, but they will have to wait a while.

Yes. That's why it was so surreal . The customer had agreed to meet Justin halfway, and then asked to hear them before paying! :confused: :confused: They were in the B& Q car park, at the time, so I don't know if they tried there. :D Class-D were happy to run the Mackies in their shop, and Justin will tell you how they sounded.;) ;) Let's just say that if I had heard them there I wouldn't have bought them!!

That's pretty much it, I've posted my findings on the PA upgrade thread I started. But seriously, I was very dissapointed in the sound of the Mackies compared to the Class D's. As Peter said, I think if they'd heard a side by side demo I would still be stuck with my Mackies. As it is, I now am a very proud owner of a lovely Class-D 1400W rig.

Oh BTW Steve, the plastic JAC12's sound really nice, they compliment my wooden subs & mids perfectly.

Not disagreeing with you Steve, but I doubt I'll ever use them on their own. They'll always be paired with (at least) the subs, but more often than not, I'll be using the full system. I'll try the rig without the CD158-1's when I have time to have a proper play with them and let you know.

If your using them all together, I'd have gone for seperate amps, and then use a Behringer DCX 2496, or better still a DBX Driverack to get the most from the speakers.

An active crossover and another amp is my next purchase, It would have pushed me well over my budget at the moment. And besides, the sound I heard set up with one amp and no crossover was pretty impressive. I know exactly what your saying though and when I have a spare £300 that's what I'll be getting.

Class-D themselves recommend using plastic for tops, rather than full range/subs, as they say the wooden one are better for lower range. As someone who fervently hates plastic cabs, I could not believe how good the JAC ones sounded. Apparently they are using a new plastic for the enclosure, and running top end only they completely annihilated the wooden 128's

Excellent advice, with the only flaw in your advice being that the poor lad is already over budget!:eek: You've never seen negotiating like it, we all had tears in our eyes after Justin accused them of taking the money set aside for shoes for his children, or something like that.:( :(

Adam, the system when run together goes full range into wooden 15", in parallel with sub to run at 4ohms, and plastic 12" fed from hi out on subs, so does sound very nice. If only Justin had put 15SP's in the middle.;) ;) :D :D
