Girly songs... Teenagers Birthday Party Requests.

Hi everyone. It's good to have a bit of time to participate in the forum.

I'm doing a 14th this weekend - not something I normally do but it's for a family I've worked for before so I agreed to do it. I just spoke to the mother of the birthday girl last night and the general request for the 3 hours is 'girly' music.

I'm guessing that would mean:

Girls Aloud
Sugababes
Avril Lavigne
Britney
Beyonce
Natalie Umbruglia
Spice Girls

The obvious party songs will be dropped in there too like Cha Cha Slide, Fast Food Song, Macarena, etc.,

Anyone got any tips?

Totally Agree!!! You must get the birthday girl to do you a play list. I always do and I'm always amazed at how different their tastes are. Anything from girlie-girlie cheese, right upto thrash metal.......... play the wrong songs and my god you'll know about it!!!!!:eek:

I've got a 13yr old Girls party in a couple of weeks time sent out the request list etc and it came back with............

Led Zeplin, Alice Cooper, Bon Jovi and any other rock music!:eek:

I done a themed 14th last year, being a 50s and 60s happy days theme made it a lot of fun for an old fart like me.
The kids were in period costume too and had a blast.:D
The only thing is playing 2 min songs all night gets tiring ! :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :rolleyes: :) :)

I can only agree with this good advice. Ignore it at your peril!

Mind you, the teens parties I've done do like a lot of what Charlie Brown said. I would also add in some of the lively student-y stuff such as Chelsea Dagger (Fratellis), Starz In Their Eyes (Just Jack), I Predict A Riot (Kaiser Chiefs), Mr Brightside (Killers) and I would definitely add in (as I do for almost all of my gigs) Children Of The Night (Nakatomi).

I did a thirteen year olds party last month and he just wanted to MC over everything I played. I gave him his 15 minutes of fame and then back to the party. His guests enjoyed it, though. Again, each to their own! :o

I would definately get some form of playlist off the girl. How can you know what she likes if you don't. I do agree with Charlie Brown's song list, this would please most (if not all) of the guests.

I got a playlist for a sea cadets party (age group 10-16) and their was a few Rammstein songs in there and also a George Formby song :eek: Quite extreme really.

Try to avoid the 'guys' requests as much as poss, in my experience they will ask for 'cool, gangster rap' style music and then just sit in the corner with their mates as it's not 'cool' to dance :eek:

But play the right music and you'll have a blast, they're a good age group to play to and they don't get drunk (or shouldn't) and they also don't loiter round the exits as you're trying to pack the gear away as mostly their parents will have collected them :D

I have a 12th Birthday Party next Sunday (only 2 hours - 7pm-9pm) and am really looking forward to it. Home by 10pm, Nice :)

But also abit of clubby music would go down well. In school half terms we get an under 18s club, most of the people in my year attend & everyone has a great time.

Sweet Child O'Mine - Guns & Roses

Fast Food Rockers seem a bit young for our age group.
But we do all the other party dances such as :
