From what I remember from my corporate AV days, we used to have to inform the attendees of what would be there on tickets, etc, and also put a large notification on any entrance doors.

I know I'm gonna regret asking this but here goes.

You asked about the laws regarding the use of "potentially" harmful effects and the warnings needed to be given. Can any explain what this has to do with food safety legislation? Unless you're gonna bottle your fog fluid and sell it as an energy drink I can't see a link.

Can someone enlighten me?

Taking the legal view . Remember if you are planning this DJ battle you are acting as an Event organiser. Your disco PLI insurance if you have it will not cover you. You have to get Event PLI which is expensive.
Also you will need to comply with the new sound regulations as you will be classed as the ''Employer'' event though you will not be paying anyone.
Every DJ participating there will have to wear ear protection as they will be classed as ''staff'' as well as anyone helping out on the day.

Headphones or ear plugs which are specially made to filter out certain frequencies.
