What speakers do you use

I am currently looking into upgrading some of my pa equipment.The new peavey pr range looks tempting because its so light weight.

Do any of you currently use the peavey pr range?

I think he means the PR range and not the PRO range???

Last night there were complaints from residents in the village down the road to my gig that the Crazy K Peavey rig with Subs could be heard a considerable distance away.

I think they were jealous cos they couldnt join in :D :D :D

I think the rig you want is way bigger than mine, or I could have offered you a listen. Bear in mind two things though, firstly by changing thus you will immediately become ineligible to compare your rig to any other make, and secondly you willl have to carry 47 speakers into every gig!!!;) ;) :D :D :D

Because almost without exception, every Class-D user rates them so highly, and they cost so much less money?:confused:
I've said before, if money was not an issue, my main PA would be Peavey UL based, but funds will not run to it. End of daydream.

2 Peavey UL15 and 2 UL115 subs powered by 2 Peavey PV2600 amps for the larger venues and 2 Pro12's with UL112 subs powered by PV2600 amp or if using Pro12's on there own a behringer pmp3000 mixer. Pro12 quality not as good as the UL's

I am getting a bit bored with whole debate to be honest, but how many of the worlds biggest music venues are using Turbosound and how many are using Class D?

Turbosound is very nice kit don't get me wrong but i only have 1200w of it, I want to have something in the garage i can roll out for a high school prom or a big church hall and sound amazing and not struggle for power, I dont want to spend another 3K on more turbosound and amps to make it bigger, would rather spend £800 for the amount of times that it would be used.

In my day job, some gear is very expensive, and lasts me a long, long time. Some is cheap, and regarded as dispensable/disposable. Some blurs the lines, I had a £20 angle grinder which survived five years of nothing but abuse, and actually outlasted dearer ones.

Rolls Royce cars have undoubted quality and longevity, but I can't justify running one. I'll just have to put up with this a bit longer. .

I am yet to be impressed by speakers in plastic cabinets. I use 4 Deltec minibins (30 years old and recently refurbished by Deltec). I love them even more now.

I have heard them.... and a few times at that at the various speaker meets and in a disco situation... Admittedly i haven't heard the latest re-design of them that the makers of Class D (and it's distributors) seem to rave about BUT the ones i have heard although very good budget speakers just don't cut it against the likes of turbosound, HK, EV...

Who knows with the new range i may end up eating my words...:rolleyes: :eek: :D

A £250 Acne moving head is probably OK for a party disco down the Dog & Duck to throw pretty shapes around the floor & walls, but would be useless in TV, theatrical or corporate applications where the accuracy of gobo projection is critical to within millimetres. A Mac doesn't cost 10 times an Acne just because of the badge.

Ive just changed mine to the Tapco 69' series speakers, and im chuffed to bits with them.
(i suppose the fact that Mackie are involved in designing them helps!)

well like i said jamie, it was 3 years ago i heard them and the bottom end just made you wobble and i thought oooohhh i like. Maybe if i heard them today i wouldn't go ahead. I dont really know but somethings in the pipeline soon.

As long as i can get to max 6 cabs and get better performance, instead of the 10 i carry now i'll be happy

For me I could never see myself spending £10,000 on a pa system. Maby half but over a few years but it all depends on what gig it would be used for.

At this level, I'm not sure what you mean by "7k output". The Q series package in the link above is 1.6k and very very efficient.

If looking for something a bit bigger on the bottom end, I'd look at two stacks of secondhand C7. There's a fair bit of it around the ex-rental market at the moment, with amplification you'd end up with change from your £10k.

C7 stacks again are very very efficient and although rated at 1k per stack, would blow that 14k of Bring Other Sound Equipment out of the water.

Have a listen to lots of systems before parting with that sort of dosh.

It was in an aircraft hanger, and the guy runs a sound & light hire company.
He felt that this would be needed, But on this occasion it wasn't enough.

I always thought/heard that the old BOSE stuff was in-efficient guess that proved it.

I have decided to be honest with myself & can't justify spending that amount on my hobby/part time money earner. But I am going to spend a little. ( can you tell i've been nagged by she who must & will be obayed)

I am going to see if i can hire a Bose L1 system and see if that works for me, for smaller & posher type functions & am going to tidy up the mix mash of speakers i use everyday with a matching set of possibly A.S.S not decided as yet
