Accusation

I have just been accused by my friend James Lake of this:

"Perhaps you can explain how you use this forum to gather information about other DJs venues they have residencies at and then go after the venues then like you have to me and several other DJs from the forum???"

I know this is complete rubbish and untrue and will be contacting my solicitors unless I get an apology very soon.

If you run a business and think I have been trying to steal your venue through collecting information on here, then please go ahead and post here.

I am an honest businessman who has never done anything like this to anyone on this forum or anywhere else.

I do not like being accused of anything that I haven't done and thought perhaps everyone might want to see the kind of person the accuser is, trying to discredit an honest businessman.

Come on then James, let's have names of DJs that I have been trying to steal work from and their venues.

Sounds silly to me. Lots of people know the venues and agencies I work at and could try to "steal" the work from me. In 42 years I have lost several important jobs to competitors but I dont cry foul. Most of the time others cant replace me because I am good at what I do.

Try not to let words get you down Darren. I'm sure its just a wind up. You are a genuine bloke, you've helped alot of guys and gals out on here, more so than you needed too, me included, and we're all grateful, and don't see you as the sort of bloke who would shaft us.

It's clear what's happening here.

I believe you recently discovered that James Lake had stolen part of your website, and went on to point this out to him.

He clearly got the hump over this big time (a bit like that guy in the USA who stole your whole site), and is now trying to get back at you.

Darren. This is how I see it. I don't know anyone on the forum personally but I cannot believe that the vast majority of those who "live" here are anything but genuine - no-one more so than yourself. Even when I posted my frustrations over the time it was taking to sort out the new Digital DJ License for laptop based karaoke shows, you didn't take it personally and calmly explained the current situation. I've had nothing but help and good advice from the forum and I'm sure you're a man of good morals.

Having said that, here's something to think about. I know there's honour amongst DJs but I have a business startup advice sheet for DJs from Business Link. On finding work, it actually advises that if you're at a venue and the resident DJ isn't very good, let the manager know and tell him/her you can do better and you may get your break! Maybe DJ James Lake just isn't very good and someone has the same advice sheet as me!

I have always left my card at venues and normally say that I understand they may have a regular guy or company, but please keep it for reference for the future.

Sometimes I may follow it up with an email or letter if I have a favourable responce from the C&B staff, but I don't target individuals businesses and go after them, and I certainly don't get the information from this site.

Much the same procedure as I suspect most of us adopt, and would view as acceptable/the norm. Certainly what I used to do. ;)

I used to work in that way but (without starting yet another big debate on 'bread and butter' residency work) I got tired of the same people singing/requesting the same songs week in week out. So, I leave the residencies to my lads and I cherry-pick the weddings and family parties (I am a cheesy DJ, after all!). I'm a civil servant during the week so the money isn't as important to me as it is to my lads. I do it simply because I enjoy doing it!

Well actually my best paid bookings tend not to be in Northants at all--:eek:

People with serious money to spend with me are ( sadly ) mainly in the Home Counties, London, and a long way away in Hampshire--ive got 2 good ones there in the Summer.

Vectis V should be coining it in down there;) ;) ;)

This is all about protecting your reputation, Darren, which is the same reason I have made my recent posts about UK PartyPop website. Whilst PartyPop didn't accuse me of anything untrue, they did use my business name without me knowing (and a whole load of other DJs info, too, by the look of it). To me, that's putting my reputation at risk cos I'd never even heard of them let alone had the chance to check them out first.

I got some satisfaction with my PartyPop issue. I hope you can resolve your situation as easily.

While it is of course your decision, particularly as you are one of the parties involved, I question whether airing such topics in public is a good idea. I assume that by making it so public, you are showing you have nothing to hide. All the best.;)

I have a reputation. My website was copied. I asked nicely for the person to take it off and they made excuses and then started saying things that are not true for no reason other than being childish.

But surely we are discussing here something that potentially could go legal. With that in mind I would not want to jepordise any judicial decision if it was me involved.

No. I would like James to come on and backup his accusation with names and venues. If he said it in the heat of the moment, then fair enough, send me an apology and I will delete the thread and forget it ever happened.

i think solitaire has got the right to ask, if anyone suspects he as been doing anything like that or have any knowledge of accusations it is his reputation we are talking about after all. i think if someone accused me i would like to know .when/where .you can't defend yourself without the facts,or the bases on which the accusations are based or as suspected,are they just made up.
so i can say i've not only got accusations,i've not heard any about you until you posted this yourself.

Should this have been posted publicly?. I can understand why a lot of you reckon no. On the other hand, if someone had posted accusations against me I'd be inclined to call them out out on it too.

I don't know the full story, only what I've read in this topic. I do know that if someone was spreading accusations/lies about me that could tarnish my reputation and my business, I'd be seeking legal advice for slander.
