It was my step-daughters 20th birthday yesterday so I did a small 'home' disco for her. I thought this would be an ideal time to test a broken down version of my new Class-d system.
I was running 1 sub with 2 JAC12's (mainly as this was the equivalent of my old Mackie Active system). It definately out-performed the Mackies. The overall sound was much nicer (less harsh) and the bass response was far superior to the Mackie Sub, especially on the bass-heavy songs such as "Freaks - The Creeps (Get On The Dancefloor)". The Mackie system always used to struggle with the bass on this song, kinda sloppy sounding as if it couldn't keep up, especially towards the end where the bass is very fast. I know this wasn't a direct side-by-side comparison but I know how my actives sounded in this situation as I've always used them when 'checking' new equipment and I much prefer the sound of my new set-up.
I think for most venues (especially my residency) I'll just be using the 2 subs and the 158-1's, mainly for ease of transport and 2 less 'runs' into the venue. I'll just use the JAC12's in the really big venues. Nice to have the option though. :D
