This has been on the cards for a while but now its time for me to ask my other half's father for her hand in marrage.

This is quite a big step for me as it is for most people but i know for a fact she is one. :)

She has already selected a ring already (link (http://www.hsamuel.co.uk/webstore/detail/R/3408337/?Ns=P_Current_Price%7c1)) so now I have some saving to do. :(.

I just thought i would share the great news with my pals and lasses.

Im buying so have a :beer1: or :guinness: on me everyone. :)

Just her hand , don't you want all of her :D

Ring looks OK but I could beat that price easily and with a better quality diamond :)

You're quite young though, you don't want to be hasty! I take it you have lived with her for a while?

I don't live with her yet but we have been together for 4 years in may already. It was her idea mainly really but in the end it the best idea to move on that one step forward. Also this don't mean we are going to get married in a few months time, we want to take our time and make sure everything is sorted before the actually day like getting our own place, funding ect ect.

:claphands: Congratulations...:claphands:

Personally i would have got a place tougether, settle down abit then ask her (as i'm trying to do at the moment) but thats just me.

So i guess you havent popped the big question to her on one knee yet then?

Hope everything works out well for you and i think the important thing is not to rush through the whole thing. take your time and enjoy it.

Well Done Mate:) .

And thanks for the :guinness: (mines a coke as i'm driving:))

As others have said, move in together chap. Test the water a bit.

That's what me and the wife did and we are still married 12 years later.

Indeed, I've been living with Angela for as long as Darren has been married, although we haven't felt the need to get married.

I wish I'd done the same with my ex before we bought the flat etc..

yeah i agree with the sound advice already given, move in together first,

I had a luck escape once a while back, which could have led my life completely down the wrong path, i was engaged and thought it was love we were looking to get married, and it was only after the relationship broke down that i realised she was possesive, manipulative, jealous, not to be trusted and very bitchy, as i say a lucky escape indeed !!

im married now to a great woman who lets me live my life DJ stylee.

I agree.

However long you have been going out with someone, you don't REALLY get to know them until you live together!

Thank you for your kind words everyone. Really means a lot to Rachael and I. :)

As to moving in together, well we are working on that. The only thing is that her dad was in the navy from a young age so really what ever he says, go's and I respect that as Rachael is his only daughter.

I'm trying to convince him that if we live somewhere in the village and not move to far away. So far so good but there still a way to go yet.

Congrats mate

I know what you mean when you say you know she's the one. I got engaged at 18 after being together for only 6 months. I knew from the start Sarah was the one for me. We started as a long distane relationship then I moved up to Blackpool to live with her at her parents (thats was fun, not!!!) for about a year, then we got our own place and have been their nearly two years now. We get married on 17th May, so not long now, we can't wait. 5 weeks ato go!

Well I'm 20 and my other half is 18 but it was mostly her idea and her parents are cool with it as we have nearly been together for 4 years. But then again I have known here for 6 years so we go back a little bit.

Congratulations Tom (and Rachael) :)

Forget all that moving in Malarkey, what you want to do ASAP is take the ridiculous amount of money you would have spent on the wedding and go on a round the world trip. Then get married half way round. Job done :)
