On the way home tonight, I received a phone call asking if I would be available for a disco tomorrow night. When I got home, and asked for clearance from Higher Authority ( Rob, you wouldn't understand, so don't ask :D ) since we had a social engagement booked, and spoke to the customer in more detail, it transpires that they had a Comedian booked, who apparently provides the Disco as well. :eek: :eek: :eek: ( Don't even start the jokes, it's been a hard day)

He had rung yesterday, to tell them no disco, hence last minute call to me. After a bit of shuffling of day job, I took the Disco. Good news in one respect, but worrying if various performers are providing Discos. I do know bands who stick a CD or Minidisc on when they're not playing, thus removing the need for a Disco. :bang: :bang: :bang:

We have a company do in the summer and a suggestion was for a band and "back ground music"........guarantee it would have been backing tracks that sound like the old K-Tel records with not the original artist work....you know the type.....

Managed to move them into the band and disco.....so should be fine....although I'm not convinced.....:)

Not uncommon for Bands to have a "tack on" Disco --maybe even tacky :D

Its dead easy no skill required--as we know.

I have seen it advertised--I did work with one--at next door neighbours party where I did my show for "free"---alright calm down--I had already done another gig earlier in the evening:)

I live near Kettering--the Band came from near Dover---mental eh?:rolleyes:

We get plenty of enquires from people to supply Barn Dance followed by their I pod Disco--for which they want to "borrow" our equipment for nothing.

Yeah sure hanging around till 1 in the morning--

We never do these events of course--the cheapskates cant affords us

Correct, though not very often, in any event as I used to be a Mobile DJ I dont see it as pinching business best left to the professionals as im qualified by experience to cover such events--- which I think was the original point.

Quite often gigs of that type I pass on or share with others so the clients get a professional job done--- as some people on here on here will know.

Next Saturday im working in collobaration with Steve:D although this is one of Steves gigs--but we have done this before when it was my gig.

As a big comedy fan myself, I think todays comedians/comediennes are quite good. A lot of it is observational comedy but it's often real-life situations that are the funniest.

It's much better than it was 15 years ago with the so-called 'alternative' comics. I often thought that someone coined the term 'alternative comedy' from the fact that it just wasn't funny.

Bear in mind, though, that my favourite comedians include Ardal O'Hanlon, Paul Merton and (wait for it) Joe Pasquale! Oh, nearly forgot, really enjoy the Chuckle Brothers as well. Having met Joe and the Chuckles several times I can say they are funny in real-life so comedy obviously comes natural to them.

Anyway, just my opinion! ;)

Although I'm primarily a Party DJ, I also do karaoke discos and standalone karaoke, Tony, but I've never sold myself as a singer. I think that would be against the Trade Descriptions Act! :D :D :D

The nearest I get to real singing is when we do the charity shows as the Blues Brothers although we never charge for them so it's not really selling. I just like to give something back.

Seriously, though, I do know some club circuit singers who perform on weekends but then do karaoke shows during the week. I suppose they can't be blamed - if the P.A. gear is lying around then might as well make some money out of it. It's all about maximising return on your investment (the PA being said investment). At they end of the day, most club turns are just glorified (and paid) karaoke singers, aren't they?

Not so murky a plot as first appeared. :D

I have been Djing since 1989 and over the last few years I have been doing more andmore Band / entertainment work. about 35% - 40% of my work is now working with bands. Generally it is high end work and I can charge more money for it as the bands I tend to work with are big expensive bands changing between £2k and £4k so a few hundred quid extra for me is nothing. A few of the bands make a bit on providing me with the work but I don't mind as long as I get my cut and often we combine PA systems due to the size of the venues. I am generally running a 2k rig which can be a bit quiet with some of the bands rigs. Got one next month in Leeds and I am borrowing a 5k rig to join up with a bands 4k rig.

It always feels like a better night when DJing with bands and I prefer it.
