I'm getting 2 or 3 calls a day from companies calling and hanging up.I was just wondering how often it happens to others?

Companies who want to cold call you but you call them back as they call and hang up-saves them money.It's happening daily to people who have their number on the net!

Its because they ring several numbers simultaneously, but deal with the first one to answer!

Id say thats spot on.

Friend of mine( in a band ) always leaves the answerphone to work and listens to the start of the message--if its genuine he picks up the phone.

All those time wasters from the Far East cut off when that happens.

Register with the TPS (http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/). It hasn't completely stopped the marketing calls I receive, but it's reduced it by about 90%.

You can even register mobiles and 0800 numbers :)

not had a problem with people calling me to sell me things since i came out of yellow pages ..... when it was about 2 a day ..... sometimes the same company!! .......... just have certified nutters phoning me up these days :D :D :D which is not a bad thing as it lets me know theres someone else visiting my planet :D :D

I had a call yesterday and when I answered it, it sounded like a bad crackly line and a mans voice was shouting "hello, hello, can you hear me" then hung up. Was probably a recording. Caller display showed the number as an 0703 which I looked up and it costs 50p a minute to phone it.

No doubt a scam but sounded genuine and there was a real temptation to phone the caller back. I'm sure some people will get caught out by dialling 1471 and returning the call.

We have caller ID and an answerphone. The phone is only answered to "standard" numbers, the answerphone does the rest.;) :D :D

We have anonymous call barring as I got so cheesed with my lads mates ringing at all hours but witholding their numbers. Soon sorted them out.

I know it means customers can't ring the landline - but they still get through via the mobile.

I have never had this problem but sometimes if there is no number displayed on the screen on my mobile then I wont take the call as I can guess it's someone trying to sell somthing to me. I get this a lot.

I have voicemail so if they do have a question or would like to book with me then they can leave a message and I will phone them back.
