Because daft people who took 3 times as long (especially the "if all else fails, read the instructions" brigade :daft: ) would complain.

because the timings would be so in depth they would have to do some kind of grapical dipiction with length of time taken to finish the task relating directly to the basic intelligence of the person carrying out the task ..........................

Gas BBQ's ? Almost as bad as clip on bow ties. When I have a spare moment, I'll tell you about the time I built my first one. What an edifice. :D

Yes! And they are very robust.;) :D

Right, the BBQ story. Once upon a time, our neighbours suggested a BBQ, at which they would provide the meat. Only snag we didn't have a BBQ, so muggins would take some assorted scrap metal and various engineering tools and create one. A couple of sessions scavenging and welding, and voila- the world's heaviest BBQ! It was huge, and as someone with a knowledge of physics, I had ensured it would have an adequate supply of oxygen by using surplus rebar which I had found, carefully spaced to ensure a plentiful supply of air. BBQ time came, and we tipped a bag of charcoal in, and wondered where it had gone! Seemed kinda lost in this vast expanse of steel, but we lit it anyway. Like I said, I had ensured it would not be short of airflow, and soon it was hot enough to cook over. Soon after that it was hot enough to show up as a volcano on a satellite picture! The rebar started to move due to the heat, and began to riddle itself, thus adding to the inferno! Cooking food was achieved simply by waving it in the general direction of the conflagration from a distance of about twenty yards, for about ten seconds. :D
After this initial "baptism of fire" a couple of modifications were made, and it was the best BBQ I ever used. Sadly it was retired by high command on the grounds that it was too difficult to clean, and the shop bought replacement has been a poor substitute. :(
