a little help requested, a little help to offer

Hi all

As I said on my newbie post I inherited my equipment from a friend, I’ve done a couple of gigs for friends and family just to try and get some experience and build my confidence.

I was wondering if I could roadie for one of you guys a few times, just to get an idea of how to do things properly.

I think my main problem is confidence with the mic so a little bit of help and advice would be very much appreciated.

I’m not bothered about how far I have to travel, I’d just be glad of the experience.

You've got the right idea. Going on the road with another DJ is by far the best way to gain some experience. I'm sure someone on the forum will be able to help. Best of luck.

Just thought I'd wish you good luck, Jim. I only wish you were over the North East cos I like your enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Makes a refreshing change from some of the younger DJs I've met who think they know it all. I've been in this business for 9 years and I'm still a long way off knowing everything!

I'm sure someone will take a chance on you and take you under their wing for a while.

With the microphone issue it is something allot of us experience in our first few years. it's just something you'll get used to as you go along but what ever you do don't shy away from the microphone or you'll never learn. you need to face your fears as they say.

Best advice i can give is talk loud and clear and maybe even try writing down things to say as there's nothing worse than a babbling, mumbling DJ.

Bit to far away for us but sure you can find someone to help gain experience or if you get no luck on her look up local DJ's/Clubs/Agencies/Disco shops in the local area and try your luck with them.
