Studiomaster

Hey all,
Long time no posts,

Out of interested what is the general opinion on studiomaster mixer desks, i have never used one, but have my eye on one.

Are they peavey quality or behringer quality or even sound tech quality?

Havn't used any of new studiomaster mixers but used to have a powered 608 mixer,had no problems with sound quality,IMO similar to Peavey. I maybe wrong but I'm sure a few year ago they were bought by another company so quality may be different now. Check out your local music stores see if they stock them and have a listen to some different makes.I use peavey and behringer and have had no problems from either

Well i have never used studiomaster or Peavey mixers but i am a user of Behringer,

I have 2 behringer mixers one for my studio here in my bedroom and also one i use for karaoke and i have to say they are cracking mixers for the money and i have never had any issues with them at all.

Used a Studiomaster one - quite a traditionally built and style of desk and ok.

Well - the one we had was ok until the PSU went pop and it was some weird coil, etc, and the part, with Studiomaster, was no longer available.

Caveat Emptor?

Jamie, I assume you are talking live desks as opposed to DJ mixers.
My 2p, here goes:

Studiomaster have been around for 30 odd years and back in the day were highly regarded, with their kit often appearing in 1980s corporate installs. The London Hippodrome had 2 or 3 Studiomaster mixers during its days of Stringfellow & subsequent European Leisure ownership (I think Luminar got rid of them). Nowadays Studiomaster do a small range of small format live mixers and some basic power amps. From time to time, a DJ will turn up for PAT with a heavy old Studiomaster power amp. Like the old H&H lumps they were built to last. As far as I know, they don't make any DJ kit now. I always quite liked the build and feel of their old stuff, but have had no experience of the newer.

Peavey desks - famous for being quoted in many a technical rider, usually in the context of "No Peavey, Mackie or Behringer desks" (Google it & see!) I dislike their look, feel and sound but give them 10/10 for consistentency across their product range.

Behringer - whilst all their products are firmly at the budget end of the market, they're not ashamed of that, the gear is good value for money and does what it says on the tin. May get a few sn1ggers from brand snobs and egotistical band members who think they justify a Heritage to play to 250, however it should not be forgotten that Behringer represent an affordable starting point.

Sound Tech - who? sorry, never heard of them.

I often use StudioMaster power amps (Powerhouse & Horizon) and have done for years. I find them much easier to use and more reliable than the Dynacord 600's that we also use as these tend to clip more often.

Mind you, the last SM I bought had a faulty cooling fan and I managed to burn out the whole unit at a wedding I was doing the first time I used it. Thank god for back-ups!

I have a Studiomaster 750 powered Mixer 8 x 2 channels
excellent condition. Got more nobs than you know what to do with. Only ever used as a spare backup but never needed.
