What software programme will i need

I had a meeting with a couple who are getting married inAugust,They have asked me to have a slow dance (Al Green lets stay together),Play this for about 1 minute,then have the sound effect of a scratched record which leads into the second song You can never tell by little Richard.

Any thoughts on how i could do this?

could use soundforge its pretty simple to do something like you described.

you would load both tracks and the scratch sound effect onto different tracks and put the scratch effect at the relevant point on the timeline and fade from track to track it would then compile out to a finished file once you were happy with it.

Not sure of the legality of it though ;)

Another thought depending on your playback source i could probably do this on the fly in virtualDJ using the sampler :)

How about you buy a Denon HD2500, create some hot starts one 1 deck and do some scratching on the other deck. :D:D:D

Garry use mixmaster - i have it at home, sure i could do it for you and put on cd as long as you have the tracks, to keep legal

why not put both tracks onto one disc and have this in deck one and have a scratch effect in deck two ? surely would be simpler

Doing it on the fly with 1 cd and a sound effect in the other, runs the risk of something going wrong, and you don't want that on their first dance.

Yes it sure has.Both tracks in question are from the Pulp fiction soundtrack.I personally dont like this kind of thing for a first dance at a wedding but if its what the bride& groom want then they will have it!

how about "shaungs audio editor" load the 2 tracks with a sample of a scratch effect then edit to how its needed, save it as a mp3 and use or burn it to cd, you only have to press play at the begining then and no to chance of ballsing it up doing it live, you can also let the couple here it before there day to make sure there happy with it

This is what I would do. Audacity is about the best free piece of software available and easily lets you mix two tracks together and add SFX to the mix. It gets my vote everytime.

As for FX-mixing on the fly, I suppose if you've practised it enough and are confident in your ability then this shouldn't be a problem. But, for a first dance song, you've gotta be sure! I once did this for a wedding first dance. I remember the couple wanted a slow song for about 1min then mix right in to Bat Out Of Hell. Everyone went crazy and it turned in to a fantastic gig with a heaving dancefloor all night.

This isn't easy. Just been messing around with this method and couldn't get the scratch audio effects to work at all. The scratch video transition doesn't seem to do much but I think it's for graphic transitions only. You could use the scratchpad facility but this is nigh on impossible to scratch and then mix in to the next song - you'd need to be an octopus or something. The best method is to play the first song, at the chosen point activate the "backspin" effect, launch the second song and then stop the first before the effect finishes and the 1st song resumes. Timing is everything - you've gotta be quick and accurate - and you may need to use a combination of mouse and keyboard shortcuts. Like I said, it isn't easy and I wouldn't recommend it especially for a wedding first dance.
