Glowsticks as extras

I'm seriously considering adding Glowsticks as an optional extra to my disco as I'm getting quite a few under 18 disco's lately.

I don't want to sell them at the disco (a bit tacky and distracting IMO) but would rather add them as an additional extra. Just wondering who does this and more importantly how much you charge for say 100 glowsticks. There's a good site on ebay hat sells them fairly cheap and have just bought 150 for 3.95 + 4.50P&P. Obviously I would buy in bulk to avoid the expensive P&P if I decide to go ahead.

Me too, I just add the cost into the fee. I don't make a profit on them.

I never sell them at a gig but if it's a kids party I will mention it on the phone or email with a price for how much they cost and if they want to buy some then I will add this to the total price.

Kids parties are already cut to the bone so I charge £10 per 50 (20p each) and most people are happy to pay that. I did have one person question the price and I pointed out that they're usually sold individually at other events (eg bonfire night) for 99p. End of discussion.

I have been known to give a few away as prizes etc. if we have a kids section at a wedding or whatever but only on a full-whack gig.

I would never "sell" anything at my gigs as I'm a DJ not a shop but i have often used glow sticks as prizes at children's disco's which has always worked well. I incorporate this into the overall price for the gig.

I buy glowsticks in bulk and offer them as an extra for kids parties. Where I know I can do it I build it into the price and give them away. So I constantly have fresh stock I also sell them on ebay.
Be careful with some of the cheap ones. Make sure they conform to EC standards or you could have trouble. Also check your PL insurance will cover you. If one does leak it may stain clothes and a £1000 wedding dress will destroy your profits.

Generally I charge £10 for a tube of 50 deluxe (Extra thick 6mm) and £15 for a tube of 100 standard (5mm) glowsticks.
I sell them cheaper on ebay as I can turn over more without any hard work. The price I get them in at leaves a big mark up due to the quantities I buy.

I've seen them sold in a shop for £1.50+ so the 20p that I also charge per stick is pretty good value. I can keep my profit margin healthy by buying bulk.

Also, it's not just kids parties where they go down well. I specialise in weddings and family parties and they're popular there too!

I doubt your PLI cover will apply if you SELL these--your then a trader and may be liable if they injure someone.

Check it out--otherwise you could get bankrupted very quickly if theres an accident.

In a way I agree but at a fund rasier I did set up a small so called "stall" to the side of the rig where people requested a song and bought some glow sticks, which my roadie took care off. Raised over £50 just from glow sticks selling at 20p each. Not bad going I think.

Have thought about it but to be honest most gigs I think they would go well at already have their own. They are so cheap to buy in the likes of poundland etc I don't think it would be worth me pulling out the money to buy in bulk.

Who were you raising funds for ??...Surely if it's a charity then it's the organisers/volunteers job to arrange merchandisng and allow us to get on with the entertaining ?

The pound shop do 100 for......one pound funnily enough :lol: but you do get the odd item for 50p......in a pound shop, who would have ever thought :Laugh:

I give them away, i think that the clients might think that it is a nice touch.
The only downside is, you sometimes get the one kid that keeps coming back for another one and another and another.
