Had a phone call this morning claiming to be from Mobile Disco Directory asking me if I'd like to:

1st: Have more bookings as they've been contacted and they are looking to give the leads to someone....

My Answer: I won't deal with agencies after a bad experience etc etc

2nd: We're not an agency, we can get you higher on search engines......

My Answer: I can do the SEO myself, don't want to pay someone else the money to do it.

I asked where he was from and couldn't give a straight answer finally telling me that he was from Customer Street (www dot customerstreet dot com).

I don't know whether the mods have allowed this or whether you want to contact them about phoning members on here advising that they are calling from the directory.

I will guarantee you that this has nothing to do with this site whatsoever!

I've had more than a few sales calls (but not claiming to be fm MDD) recently - after I had thought about the first one I now stuff them every time...

Telemarketer: "Do you have a website Sir?"

Me: "Yes I Do"

TM: "Well did you know that when you type in disco Cambridge, you don't appear in the top ten on the first page?"

Me: "Yes - but YOU don't know that, as you just asked me if I had a website or not. If you knew about the search engine rankings then you'd know about my website as well, instead of just making it up as you go along. If I want search engine promotion, I at least want a company that knows whether I have a website or not in the first place."

TM: "Thank you goodbye CLICK *hung up*" :D

I remember when I was at work at Keele - and we had a marketing call from a domain name registration company - trying to sell us the domain mediaandcommunicationscentre.co.uk. (Ridiculously long name I know!).

The numpty on the phone said how we could get the domain taken and someone setup a company and get business, etc, etc....

I kept them talking - which gave me time to register the domain for free and redirect it to our other website and then told them thanks for alerting me about the name being unregistered and for allowing me time to register it myself.

Tick tick boom!

I think those kind of companies have gone now--how could we all be at the top of Page one of a search --mathematically impossible--

Yeah - I wish

I still keep ignoring the voicemails from YP who reckon that for an extortionate amount of money I can have a "free" page on their sitebuilder thingy (which, if you've ever visited anyone's "site" there, has got to be one of the worst looking DIY-Webpage bodges I've ever come across) :D

I had a call from the "Mobile Disco directory" yesterday. I was busy and told them to call back later. They didn't. :D

As I knew it wasn't Darren or Angela calling ( I don't think they wouldn't know my name somehow :tongue2: ) and had a slight american accent, I wasn't that bothered when they forgot to get back to me.

I was meaning the ones who guarantee to get you number one position on Google--i think they dont phone anymore--

Crikey--got a call from someone who saw me on yell.com--what did I do to deserve that :bang: :bang: :bang:

Needless to say im not expecting a call back with a confirmed booking--the person sounded like they would accept my quote--but had to refer it to another family member--they are bound to know someone cheaper--

DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT SIGN UP OR EVEN ENTERTAIN THESE PEOPLE.

They are Ufindus. They will rip you off, take your money and tell you lies to get your business.

I know.

Sounds just like every b....r that phones here:bang: :bang: :bang:

My golden rule--in recent years---if someone cold calls you or knocks on your door--you know you can most likely get it cheaper and better somewhere else.

Should you actually want it.

Thats my law of economics.
